kind of a change of topic, but the 335i coupe v6 has more torque than the up and coming V8 M3???? can anyone make any sence of this for me??
which brings me back to the main topic. . . if they can cram a V8 into a
3-series they can fit a 3.7l engine in a sedan. . .

Ya, BMW has an inline-6, twin turbo'd.
There is a 3 series with a V10 in it.
"550 bhp and 384 lb-ft of torque, and the three is fitted with a 7-speed SMG gearbox and reinforced rear axle, as well as an adjustable suspension setup and stainless steel exhaust system"
Cost around $160k delivered, I think.
