Never say never

The dealer is going to make the money one way or another. Thats how they stay in business.

The easiest way to do it that I have found is to find out what the doc fee is up front then factor that into your negotiation. In my example, I found out the doc fee was $399. I wanted a $300 under invoice deal which I thought was fair so I negotiated to $700 under invoice and just paid the doc fee.

If I had been a hard a$$ on the doc fee then I would have gotten to probably only $300 under invoice, 6 of one half dozen of the other.

The other place where the dealer will get you is on trade-ins. Half the time when you hear someone say the got $1000 under invoice or more, there is usually a tradein involved. I was offered 19000 for my truck from CarMax and the Infiniti dealer offered my 18000, but I would save 1300 in sales tax. I ended up not doing a trade and just purchased the car outright, but the dealer could have made 3000 on the trade and it still would have benefited me over the 19000 offer from CarMax.

I did not trade anything in this is an outright new purchase. The guy's name is Frank. Be persistent with the price you want to pay...eventually he will give in if he wants to make the sale.

Personally, I would just gauge the pricing based on what sites like edmunds and other car pricing sites say. Edmunds is my favorite so far, and I pulled off a great purchase for a friend. I like how the invoice pricing is broken down for each option as well.

Both edmunds and kbb do those "what other buyers are paying" game as a concession to the dealers. Isn't it funny that those prices are never anywhere near invoice yet I have not paid over invoice for any car I have purchased in the last 10 years.

I agree. I like the whole breakdown of msrp, invoice, and TMV. It gives you some insight as to what invoice is going to be, and that should be the number you work with to price your deal accordingly. Dealers that scoff at people offering less than invoice usually have strong sales, and will hold out on low-ballers in order to sell to willing customers. I'm sure most of us here though aren't the average buyer, and are willing to negotiate and be firm until a deal to our liking is made.

i don't know. but would a dealer pass up the chance to increase sales while making a little less profit? profit is profit. you're just giving away $200 of it. you can always get allocated more cars on the next boat in.

one of the dealers in socal quoted me $1300 over invoice on a regular journey model just last week. I told him to f**k off. Do you think any semi-intelligent person would buy at that price? Would a smart dealer hold out at 1300 over for the next dumbass to come along?

Some dealers claim right now that the car is uber hot and that they cannot make much room for negotiation. Find me a dealer who doesn't say that, because they are in business, and they must make money. I went to go price some new sedans at several So. Cali dealerships, and the best I came up with was getting two cars for decent deals:

G35 (Journey-AT) Prem + Navi + Sport wheels = $33,750.00 + fee's

G35 (Sport-AT) Prem + Navi = $35,500 + fee's

Don't know how you would all rate these deals, but they seem sub-par to me.

P.S.
Is it just me, or is anyone else disappointed in the sound system (studio-on-wheels)? I can say without a doubt, test driving the Camry Hybrid with premium sound, I was let down by the Infiniti sound system.

.

is that with or without destination charge?

because without, it's $200 over invoice.
With , it's $500 under invoice!

if the latter, that's f***ing crazy

whenever a deal is made for under invoice thats cutting into the dealer holdback which leads to the finance manager trying to sell you everything but the kitchen sink so it turns out to be a good deal that the customer got but at the same time the dealer is making some $ also.

time to drive the hard bargains.

FYI- in the NOVA area the market is flooded with the Xs, that is all Infiniti shipped them initially, and this is a deal on a non-Nav car. I have no doubt they wanted to move it. Now, try to work a similar deal on a Sport model and a Nav car. I would wish you goodluck.

The dealerships are recently getting in newer stock and getting more Sport, Journey, and Nav cars, they will be willing to deal SOME on these now, but nothing like that. The sales manager at Tysons Corner quoted me sticker and would not budge on any RWD, Nav cars when I bought mine around that same time (I was writing them a check for the car, so I had independant financing as well) because they didnt have any on the lot. The same went for Passport and Chantilly. I bought my Journey, Prem, Nav, Tech at JBA for $34,800 (MSRP $38,600), they also gave me $2,200 more for my '05 Coupe than any of the other places.

You got a killer deal nonetheless-
I am in the VA area and will be looking for a G Sedan soon. I know the Northern VA dealers well but never heard of JBA. Can you tell me where it is?
