Wife won't let me drive the car!

Kendall, welcome to the club!

lol saying that I've only been in it for a week!

I agree on your sentiment, my local dealers didn't want to deal so I drove 500 miles round trip to get mine; but not only because it was the best deal, but the dealer was a class act and I believe in paying for good service.

Only problem now, is that the wife won't let me drive her car.

Looks like I'll be getting mine a lot sooner than I expected.

Congrats to you as well!

I'm a little annoyed with the gas mileage, but in terms of overall cost this car cannot be beaten. It is a truly great value.

I'm taking delivery next week!

They have an advertised:

$37K MSRP
$3K down
$360/mo
12K/yr + 24m

Comes to about what you got ^.

I am thinking of getting a $38K MSRP (6MT Sport + Nav + Prem)... Going to try for $18K over a 36m period.

How did they agree to $500 below invoice???

I have tried dealing with my local dealer for closer to invoice.
I am looking at a 6MT sport with NAV ($38K MSRP) and wanted $18-19K for a 36m lease.

They aren't going below $20-21K, saying they are doing ME a favor doing $1000 under MSRP... F*ck them.
Infiniti of Kirkland (Seattle, WA).

It wasn't easy, and it did take 3-4 days of going back and forth with several dealers. What I did is basically draft a lease proposal similar to the one I posted in this thread and sent this to 4-5 dealers within 100 miles of me. The initial proposal I sent I was asking $1000 below invoice. Two of the dealers just laughed and said no way. The other dealers sent me a counter proposal at invoice or 200-300 over. I resent another proposal asking for $500 under invoice....its only fair we meet in the middle of our two proposals. The dealer in Elk Grove agreed to this proposal and was true to their word. The key to getting good deals is to always be in control....never let the dealers start throwing numbers out leaving you to ask questions. In my final proposal I politely asked them "Yes or No".

$500 under invoice is a great deal, however this can be done rather easily if you take you time and do your homework. Car sales are pretty slow right now so the ball is already in your court. If you'd like I could send you some spreadsheets and a sample lease proposal you can use. PM me your private e-mail if interested.

Regards,

pip9ball

Typical Seattle area pricing... I bought my G out of California and had it shipped up.

My deal...

Closed on a G today and am absolutely stoked!! I love the car (...though it's my wife's... ) and got the deal I wanted. Sure, some may say I left $100 on the table here or there, but all-in-all, I feel like I made out well.

Here are the details for your review (dealer was Pinnacle Infiniti in Scottsdale, AZ - e-mail me if you want the salesperson's name - he was great):
- 2008 G35 Journey in Platinum Graphite/Stone - $29,480 invoice (prior to 1/1 build, I think)
- CGO (cargon net) - $46 inv.
- P01 (Premium package) - $2,155 inv.
- SGD (splash guards) - $114 inv.
- Destination - $715
- Total invoice - $32,510

I offered $32,910 for this vehicle: $200 above invoice because I'm a great guy and feel that is fair, and another $200 for the $1,995 B.S. add-on package of "extras" to cover the cost of the tint (which I again feel is fair). I categorically refused to pay for the $297 Zaktek paint protection they put on every vehicle, and actually have "hard-coded" on the bill of sale. I made them white it out and zero it out.

They came back at $33,110, at which point I dropped a potential trade on them. I had left that unaddressed - they didn't ask me explicitly, and I didn't offer it up. The G was replacing my wife's '04 Honda Accord EX V-6, and I had been planning on selling it myself. But I figured I'd see what I could get, hoping for a net to me of $15,000 (trade value + $992 loan payoff + tax savings).

After some back and forth, with me telling them that I'd be on my way to the next two Infiniti dealers on my list if we couldn't strike a deal, I ended up back at the original $32,910 offer for the G, $13K for the trade, $900 towards my loan payoff and $1,105 in tax savings, for a net to me on the trade of $15,005. Which was exactly what I was looking for. My point being, if I sold it myself, I would have to get better than $15K for it to match that, not to mention the hassle factor of showing and selling a vehicle. I had done the comps and, at best, I was looking at $15.5K-ish as a final sale price. Also considering that Edmunds valued the trade at $13,466; KBB at $12,785 and Galves at $11,650. So I was thrilled to essentially get $14K for it.

I agreed at that point, waited for the vehicle, which had to be driven up from their sister store, Infiniti of Scottsdale (in south Scottsdale, on McDowell Rd.), checked it out, then waited for them to detail it, and off I went.

I know I could have held out for another $100 here or there, but not much more, if at all. I think it's on overall fair transaction, and a win-win. I know I am happy - I got everything out of this that I had hoped for. If it was also good for the dealer, then so be it. But I absolutely know that I got just about exactly what I was looking for.

Thrilled to be driving a G...uh, I mean, watching my wife drive a G...

Could you please explain what you mean when you talk about the tax savings on the trade...

thanks

Sure...without the trade, on a purchase price of $32,910, the tax at 8% would be ~$2,633. The trade amount comes off the taxable purchase amount, so the taxable amount would reduce to $19,910, with the tax being $1,593. So the tax savings there would be $1,040.

My point is that if I sold the trade private party, instead of trading it, I'd have to sell it for at least $1,040 more than the trade amount to "break even" on that part of the transaction (the value of the trade).

So totalling the trade value, loan payoff and tax savings, give me the net value of the trade to me, vs. selling it outright myself.

Make sense?

Yep.. thanks..

The problem I have is that they always ask if I have a trade.. Last time I just told them that I hadn't decided about a trade yet...

How Does This Deal Rate?

Let me start by saying that I love this forum. I have been 'negotiating' with this dealer in NJ and I've signed a pre-delivery agreement on a new G35x Sport. I felt pretty good about it at the time, but now after reading some of the posts, I'm starting to wonder if I should try to get them to sweeten the pot. Anyway here is my current offer. I'm supposed to finish conclude the deal and pick up the car tonight.

I don't know what your market is like but I have a similar set up minus the Nav and clearbra and I paid a little over $4k less. What is the invoice for this car? You should be able to get at or around invoice, especially at the end of the month. The only additional cost is the cost of the clearbra, which should be in the neighborhood of $300-$500.
