Infiniti Elite Maintenance Program

Infiniti Elite Maintenance Program
Hey All,
I just bought my G35 yesterday (don't even have car in possession yet, but signed all paperwork). Anyways, in the haste of my purchase I agreed to the Infiniti Elite Maintenance Program, which was $980 for 60 Months/75000. I think this might be too high and I was wondering if I could cancel this. My understanding is that you can generally cancel extended warranties, but I thought I'd get an opinion here before calling the financial manager tomorrow.
By the way, I got the 6MT with Premium, Nav, Spoiler for 34400. OTD was 36500 including the 980.
Thanks!

If you want an extended warranty, you're looking for the Infiniti Elite Extended Protection Plan.

The dealer here in Buffalo adds it to all purchases and they "assign" a value of $800 to the Elite Maintenance - the Elite Maintenance program Autoplace is quoting is 3 years/45K miles. I do my own routine maintenance, so I negotiated out the "value" of the Elite Maint charge (bought the 2008 G35xS right about dealer invoice)...Real world you could figure what the value is. I base my cost on DIY - and I realize not everyone is in to that...I figure that if you do a combo of Service Level 1 and 2 (oil changes at 7500 miles after the first one at 3750 mi and make tire rotations at 5000 miles (7500 is really too long), your cost would be 7 oil changes at $28 each with full syn & OEM filter = $196, 3 cabin filters x $20 = $60, two air filter changes (x 2 filter per change) = $36 and 9 rotations (at 5K miles) at $12 ea = $108 (GRAND TOTAL $400)...The Elite Maintenance does include a few more items but to me, the time to change the oil is less than the time to drive to dealer, wait or get a ride to work, etc, etc...Plus you get to know your car better and are using full syn oil vs dino...ALL while doing a much more "careful" job than most dealer's service depts...

^^^ There are advantages to doing it yourself. However, it's almost a given that anytime you do your own maintenance and something goes haywire with your car, the service department can easily blame "lack of proper maintenance" as the cause and will deny warranty claims outright.
Lesson? If you do decide to do things yourself, make sure it's well documented and that you have proof of everything.
By the way, klossfam, you must know of a deal somewhere. My regimen of Mobil 1 and/or AMSOIL with the proper filters cost me noticably more than $28 per change. Then again, in my previous car i went between 10k - 15k per change so it's not a biggie. Don't know yet what the Oil Test Results will show on the G when i finally change the oil.
jpr196, if you have a sport, you can discount the tire rotation as you can't rotate the tires on these properly.

Having said that, if that extended maintenance program means that the dealer will perform the routine maintenance, then $980 is a pretty good deal. My Infiniti dealership charges $50 per oil change. 75000/3750 = 20 oil changes. 20 * $50 = $1000. You already come out on top. And if they also include transmission fluid change, air filter change, regrease bearings and bushings, wiper blades, and other maintenance tasks the manual calls for, then that makes it an even better deal.

Soundmike - The point on having all the receipts/paperwork is a good one of course...Although, most Infiniti dealers will be glad to do any repair work during the warranty period and wack Infiniti/Nissan corporate for the full value of the service...that is ultimately how most dealers stay in business...I've never had any trouble with being a DIYer - at Acura, Honda, Infiniti or other dealers. Most comment on how well maintained the vehicle is, if they comment at all...My oil change of $28 is based on: 5 qts of Pennzoil Syn 5W30 at $20 (Wal*Mart or any place on sale and $8 for a OEM Nissan Oil filter and crush washer - you can get even better deals)...Kendall GT-1 Full Syn 5W30 in Western NY is available for $3/quart ($15 total) and some local dealers will sell the filter and washer for $6 - so $21 in that case...Also, I've found the Nismo filters are pretty crappy...so a Pure One Purolator is even better for $4-$5...and a lot of times, Advance Auto and Pep Boys have promos for Mobil 1 with a free Mobil 1 filter (an excellent filter by the way - not just "adding perceived value" on the Mobil 1 name) for about $25...This would be a useless point if the G wasn't so easy to work on...Only a 2004 Honda Pilot EX-L I had was easier...
