VDC working?

Ok...I am still fairly new to the G35S since a month after I got it some chick smashed in to me and it took a month to get it fixed.

That being said, I am feeling like VDC is not working right. I can take off when it is raining and spin the tires in second so much that the wheels start to hop and the car goes sideways a little.

On my BMW as soon as the wheels spin it cuts power until they stop. Also, I get some real movement when accelerating through a turn--so much that I let off rather than waiting for the VDC to kick in. And this occurs wet or dry...I'm actually afraid to try it in the wet because I have no faith the VDC is going to work.

Sometimes my slip light comes on but I can't really tell what it is doing. On my 2002 BMW 330i it is easy to feel when you are sliding during a turn and the car takes action to correct.

Also, this is a 6 speed manual if that matters.

should I get this looked at by the dealer? (nearest dealer is 75 miles from me)

thanks,
R

Wheel hopping should not be occurring when the VDC is on unless you have pre-revved the engine really high before dumping the clutch and even then the VDC does kick in pretty quickly, from what you're saying id say there is some issue with the VDC.

When all of these things occur, do u see the VDC light flashing?

Also i do believe that the VDC in the sports at least kicks in a bit later compared to the BMW's to add a bit to the sportiness, but for me i have "played around" with the VDC more than a few times and it kicks in just fine but not immediately per say. For example if i down shift and floor it in a turn, the rear end will kick out for a fraction of second before the VDC kicks in and corrects it by cutting some power and the limited slip chips in as well.

But the fraction of a second is just enough for me to have my little fun to have the car turn a bit more, but i have never felt insecure or out of control in these situations, its really hard to see what exactly your car is doing and under which conditions over the net than in person but i hope this helps you a bit.

thanks for the replies kool_yaar...I need to get in an empty parking lot and see exactly when it will kick in on accelerating turns. Maybe it is later than the BMW and I am not letting it go long enough.

In a straight line on wet roadways I am just taking off quickly, shifting in to 2nd and mashing the gas and it spins until I let off the throttle--no slip light or other light on that I have seen....I'm thinking maybe I need to take it in for this.

I'll update after my parking lot experiment.

Mine behaves differently in the wet than the dry. In the wet, in a straight line, it tends to let me spin as long as I want. Around corners it steps in as soon as the butt steps out.

For you to spin all the way thru second and get wheel hop... Makes me think you're nailing the **** out of it in the wet.. Is that your intent?

Ok after reading your second post, there has to be some problem for sure, if you take off quickly and shift to 2nd and mash the gas and should NOT keep the tires spinning until you let off, the VDC should kick in and the lights should start blinking for sure.

Well...I have been trying to get the VDC to kick in...I don't just leave it on because the car will start to spin a little sideways and that is just too unsafe in traffic, but I am not really nailing it. It is wet when the tires spin that much.

I am going to arrange to take it to the dealership in a couple of weeks.

thanks for the input guys

What tires do you have? VDC is not that quiet in our cars. you can definitely hear it pulsing the brakes on each side of the car.

When I had Eagle RSA's I almost spun out doing a U-Turn on a damp road while giving light throttle. VDC was fighting to take over. But I was still sliding around due to ****ty tires.

As soon as I got new tires, I can now do U-Turns and give it some beans and have no drama at all. Really surprising they let those tires on the streets.

And they were at 6/32nds of tread btw, not bald..
