One of the dealers near me uses my insurance to cover the rental car. I sign an agreement and I get a document with a copy of my insurance car in one corner to act as proof of insurance. That is in NY, IDK if that is possible in all states, yahoo answers only mentioned PA as an example of another state where that worked.

I wonder if you rented a car, and the repair is found to be covered under warranty, if they would be liable to pay for the rental car (or if your mom rented a car and let you borrow hers). I think they would be, so maybe you can hold that over their head? I can't imagine anything inside the engine isn't covered by the power-train warranty.

I'd be interested in their explanation as to WHY those valve springs broke in the first place. Yours is the first time I've ever read of that happening on an HR motor.

+1

I'd guess this is very rare. These motors are stout!

It's absolutely NO EXCUSE, but my guess is that since these engine rarely break, they have very little direct experience/competence in finding and fixing problems like this. Swapping out an entire engine or tranny under a warranty issue doesn't even come close to the mechanical aptitude required for working on these valve trains.

No excuse for this sort of treatment. Find a new dealership next time. Glad to hear that you'll be back in your G before long.

Dealership i went to has only had one other case 4 months ago on the exact same model as mine...07 G35x..Broken springs but much more damage as well. He said himself that this is very rare and nothing that i did nor did the previous owners do that could have caused this. He said could have been a manufacture defect the way the springs were inserted from the assembly line ect

But this incident alone will defiantly make me get the extended warranty even if it's $2500-$3000..I know these are reliable cars but i have already had bad luck..i would rather pay $2500 just incase lol

G35x
What is the build month/year on your G?

I think this is overall a pretty rare problem on any car these days.
