Man a question is asked now everyone has to justify why they went that route. How about it just makes folks feel better to change at 5K regardless of what oil they use. No difference than everyone that adds Catback and CAI and claims increased MPG (oh boy another topic)

Well for me, Mobil 1, Castrol, or Penzoil Platinum whichever 5 Plus QT is on sale at Advance Auto at the time. The filter that comes with it is a bonus. And yep every 5K miles because it makes me feel better.

Bingo, as long as you realize that, it's all good (and what I've been saying all along). But I do think a declaration of 'fact', such as "brand X and brand Y together is the best for G", warrants a call for it to be substantiated.

I've been using Mobil 1 Extended Performance with Mobil 1 filter...right now, there's a deal on Pepboys for 5 qts Mobil 1 EP with Mobil 1 filter for $29.99...this is the cheapest price I've seen so far.

Time to stock up! Mobil 1 EP claims to last 15k miles but I change around 7.5k miles...No problems whatsoever so far.

 

^ This, but I go to WalMart instead. $25 for 5 quarts of Mobil1? It beats most auto shops nearby.

Since I live in the moderate climate of southern CA and drive in rush hour traffic, I use the 5W30 variety and change every 5000 miles as well. I tried waiting after 10000 miles, but the resulting color when draining was very brown. I would like to change my oil every 7500 miles, but I will forget and the OCI sticker will come off or someone will reset my B trip odometer (A is reset for tank refills). It just makes it easier to remember (when your odometer reads 125000, 130000, 135000, etc.) especially when you have to keep track of multiple cars. I feel the motor is trying to fight against the friction of the dirty oil if I wait any longer than 6000 miles, but I used to do hard miles as a former weekend racer/pizza delivery driver. I put 100000 miles on my motor in the first year of driving one of my cars.

I get the filter at Auto Zone because it is cheaper there than at WalMart and they are very close by. I like to make sure the filter will handle the extended OCI. This is what I have done since high school and I try to stick with it.

 

No, mine was 5 qts of Mobil 1 EP AND Mobil 1 filter for $29.99. It costs $12.99 retail just for the Mobil 1 filter by itself so the Pepboys deal is the best one I've seen. Walmart sells them at $25 just for the 5 qts of oil but with no filter. If you have a Pepboys near you I would grab that deal. However, you do need a printable coupon for that. Mobil 1 filter is the best performing filter according to oil filter reviews...not sure how legitimate the claim is though.

Also keep in mind that this is Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil, which does cost higher than just the regular Mobil 1 or Mobil 1 high mileage oils.

 

This is true, WM may have good deals on oil but they never pitch in an oil filter so the deal doesn't look as good if you have to still buy one. With that said, WM super tech filter did get good ratings as well and only like $3. I've never used them since I don't get my oil from there but I won't mind using them. Quite frankly they probably perform about the same as the factory

 

Just filled 'er up today with Mobil-1 Extended Performance 5W-30, and chances are it's just the placebo effect, but my car feels smoother. I should say however, my oil was extremely dirty...

 

That's good to hear, mathnerd88. I even have a Pep Boys Rewards card for all my free brake inspections. I need to find this printable coupon. I do like using the Mobil1 oil filter since it was supposedly engineered to work best with Mobil1 oil. I am using a K&N oil filter because the Mobil1 oil filters tend to run out of stock when I visit.
