I would venture to guess they're too embarrassed to pipe-up because they failed to heed our warnings and follow our sage advice.

*sigh...not engine oil arguments again. This is honestly getting silly.

The difference between all the oils is so minor that you will only see a significant difference if you drive the car 500,000 miles or more, which I doubt any one of us would do.

All of them will be fine for your engine. It is likely something else will fail that will cause you to buy a new car anyways well before the engine oil will cause your engine to fail.

Even if you change your oil with the cheap dino oil at those quickie change shops every 3-5k your engine will last longer than you buying a new car down the road.

I'm another guy who has done Mobil 1 every 5,000 miles on my car since I purchased it with 38K miles (now has 49K miles).

The graph that someone posted has me a bit concerned, though, that there may be better alternatives for the same price (ok actually, I don't care about price; it's all about protecting the engine).

Anyone else have substantial PROOF that Mobile 1 is not as effective as others? Castrol, Amsoil, etc.?? I'm not interested in, "i tried Mobil 1 and didn't like it" responses. PROOF is what I'm looking for. Thanks!

There is absolutely none, really. Mobil already has the 500,000 mile guarantee for your engine so if it fails due to its oil, it will cover your repair costs.

Don't believe the baloney everyone is spilling out here. Mobil 1 is just as good as any other oil. The differences are so minute it doesn't matter. In any case, it will definitely be better than dino oil. I have run dino oil on cars with 250,000 miles or more and still runs well.

Hey guys, I just bought a coupe with 93k. Had a fresh oil change before I bought it. I have no idea what the previous owner used for oil, although it was well maintained by a 54yr old guy. What type of oil should I be looking into for my next oil change? I see oils being thrown around but with low mileage cars. Anything specific on my end? Its an 05 6MT

I've started using Mobile 1 synthetic and it seems to be doing well so I will be sticking with them for now.

And you actually believe that Mobil 1 is actually detrimental to your engine? Give me a break. They're all about the same and the differences are so miniscule that it won't matter in the long run. Chances are, you'll probably get a new car long before your engine breaks due to using Mobil 1.

I think the whole point of the guarantee is that the product is safe for your engine, not detrimental. I'm obviously not going to drive my car up to 500,000. Only an extreme small amount of the population will go that far.

I doubt you'll get a new car after you hit 300k miles. You should probably be more worried about your transmission more than your engine, or your other more fragile electrical components. Your engine will be fine regardless of what oil you use, as long as you change it regularly. Even dino oil will be fine, and there are PLENTY of cars with dino oil that keep running well after 250k miles. Don't be so condescending because it actually makes you look like a fool.

Btw, that graph is showing the effects on a DE engine, not HR like in our cars. They have completely different engine designs.

Wrong. The graph is for a DE engine, not the HR version.
