Need Advice Attacking Rubber Boot in Trunk

Hey Guys,

I had a similar problem as most of you on my 03 Coupe. Trunk lid does not open with internal switch nor key fob. I suspect broken wires in or near the rubber pass through boot. I wiggled those wires, and although I could not get the actuator to work, the trunk light went on and off intermittently. I am able to easily pry the boot from both end, but then what? I am thinking of cutting the boot longwise to access the wires to make the repair then reinstall and just tape over the cut that I made once I reinstall the boot. I sure could use some advice from others that have done this to save some time and frustration. Here are some other questions I could use help with:

What color are the wires that go to the actuator in the boot? Wiring diagram looks like Green and Black ,

Should the valet switch be in the "on" or "off" position? Flipped it a few times and forgot the original position.

Could use a quick response, thanks!

It's Wiring Harness

So, the wiring in the grommet under the trunk lid was causing the problem. I had to take it to the garage, first they said that they checked all wiring and none of them was triggering the motor. So, they ordered the trunk lock. Next day when I arrived, they found it to be the wiring (not the motor or lock system). Since I bought my car from them, they know me well and did not charge for the ordered part.

It seems like Wiring Harness under the trunk lid is the most possible reason for trunk-lid problem.

04 g35 60k on the odo. This is my wife's car so I kept everything stock for reliability reasons. What a laugh that is. Well I just fixed the driver's side window motor. Got it from a seller on ebay that guarantees the motor for as long as you own the vehicle. Trunk stopped working a couple weeks ago so I bought the actuator assembly, installed it, still not working. I pulled the rubber grommet to inspect the wires. A green one was severed so I reconnected it, still not working. I didn't want it to get more involved but now I have no choice. I'll have to remove the paneling in the trunk and replace all of the wires through the grommet by soldering and heat shrink. PITA

Check the trunk fuse and make sure the trunk switch in the glovebox is on the right toggle.

If you hear noise/sound at the latch; the motor may still be working. Yet, you can verify it by putting a meter in between the latch and power supply. Try pushing trunk button while connected with the meter, it should change values.

If you can't find any problem with the wire that comes through the gormet in the trunk and connects the latch; you may have to visit a garage.

wow i just have the same problem occured to me this weekend again... now for good... does anybody know which exact fuse needs to be replaced?

I will mess around with the wires of the trunk tonight after work. This is getting annoying as many of you have experienced. I have the 2003.5 as well.

I got mine working about 2-3 months ago... I checked my wires they were still good so I ended up having to replace the latch assembly since I was hear a faint ticking sound every time I pushed the trunk release button. After replacing my truck opened. I paid about $85 i think for the new latch... Or what ever its call...

When I click the trunk release button in the car or the key fob I do not hear anything at all... is that a sign that it is a fuse problem?

I still do not know which fuse to actually replace. Looking to do it today or tomorrow... there is a spare fuse in there as well which i was going to use but i think i will just buy a pack of new ones to be sure...

Also is the trunk release same fuse as my brake light on my rear spoiler or the brake light on the taillights... its not clearly marked on the panel and i don't have a manual for some odd reason (misplaced)...

Thanks guys!

Does your trunk light work when you have the trunk open? If so then it may not be your fuse. If Im not mistaken the fuse is under the hood OBC or ODC something cant remember sorry...

I say it's either your wires between the trunk lid and the rear cab or the actuator. I had to replace my actuator. Hope this helps
