Headers, Downpipe, Y-pipe??
Had a question about Headers, Downpipe, and Y pipe..
I have two Ebay links belows to what they are selling are headers, downpipe, and Y pipe. Im interested in this setup because I want to keep the stock look and also because they are very cheap.
But I wanted to know if this setup will cause the CEL (Check Engine Light) to turn because the sensors and if those Downpipe looks like test pipes but im not sure. I want to know if the three combo will pass smog and if they will cause exhaust leaks within couple of years. Also Do you guys think this will increase HP?

ebay
test pipes will throw a CEL on 04.5 and newer i think. or was it 03.5?
anyway, you can fix it with non foulers
i highly doubt test pipes will pass smog whereever you are (for sure not in CA)
search it, lots of info on the forums about this

i think they mean test pipes when they say "downpipe". downpipes are for turbo applications. what brand is all that stuff. it's risky getting stuff off of ebay bc i could be crap. headers will make your car sound louder under the hood. test pipes will make the stock exhaust sound louder, but will not pass smog bc you have no cats. you'll get some hp out of all that stuff. search for strup headers, they have some good gains. check out the dynos and stuff.
Doesnt say if those headers are ceramic coated or not, personally I wouldnt buy uncoated headers they dont hold up and look like crap a few weeks after you install them. 3 Stage Polish Shine doesnt mean ceramic coated I'd email and ask them about that.
I wouldnt buy off ebay either its cheap for a reason usually.

Those look like HF cats to me. Or are they just fancy resonated test pipes?
In my opinion test pipes are not going to do anything in the performance dept over highflow cats that you will feel. They will however make your exhaust sound a lil more raspier and make you fail emissions. Get some Crawford cats for a mix of better performance and emissions success. Just my .02c

^^i agree about the test pipes not being THAT much better than HFCs to an extent.
i dont think itll make a difference for daily drivers (like myself, hence i am getting HFCs)
but if you track your car normally (weekly) then you might as well get test pipes as you probably wont care about rasp and emissions. plus they are cheaper!

Understandable.. about the Test pipe vs HFCs
The HFC seem better.. but how about just
getting a Y-pipe.. is there any Hp benefits?
and does the CEL come on?

No ses light with the y-pipe. In the standard exhaust area (not including headers) The y-pipe is known as the second worst choke point. The stock cats are the first.

if you have a stock exhaust, upgrading to HFCs and a JIC y pipe should suffice
Hello, and welcome to the addicting bug of modifying your G35. The down pipes you speak of look to me like resonated test pipes from the link you provided. If your car year is an 2004.5 - 06, you will throw a CEL due to the stricter emission systems of our cars. The only way to bypass this is to use spark plug non foulers and mate them to your oxygen sensors. Adding headers or test pipes/high flow cats increases horsepower/torque but not by much (you'll probably get a 8-10 HP increase if you dyno your car). Also, be wary with those products from ebay as most of them are poor quality chinese factory cloned parts that may crack at the welds over time (points at those "downpipes").
