New DIY mod: 2007+ Altima "Fat Boy" exhaust tips

I'm pretty excited about this new DIY mod. I've been searching for well over 2 years for the right exhaust tips for my G35's stock muffler. The stock tips, while large for OEM (3.1" wide, 2.7" tall), where simply too short (5") and just didn't exhibit the display of power I wanted especially after adding the 05 sedan midpipe. I searched and searched and I just couldn't find anything to meet my needs which were:

1) ~7" long housing so that tip could sit up flush against muffler can and go flush with the bumper.

2) Slightly larger in diameter. Idealy round.

3) Slash cut and rolled edge like OEM.

Well, I finally found the tips. They're from the 2007 Altima. My friend has an 2007 Altima 2.5s and he installed some ricer Stillen exhaust and said I could have tips. They measure 7.1" long, slash cut and rolled edge, and 3.5" in diameter round. They're perfect. I have given them the name, Fat Boys Look at the difference between the stock tips and the Altima tips:

It takes every little to modify these tips to fit. I have no idea what the cost is for the tips from Nissan, but I can't imagine they'd be anymore than $40 each. Here's the DIY:

1) Using a pair of tin snips, cut the inner portion of OEM mounting flange inside the tip. You'll make six initial cuts. The point of this that each of these 6 prongs will serve as mounts and centering points for the tip on the muffler pipes.

2) Inner portion cut

3) Next you'll need to cut the edges off a couple of the prongs near the lower portion of the tip because if you don't they'll stick out of the tip when you mount up the tip.

Prongs cut

4) Remove the OEM tips. There is no need to remove welded mounting bracket on the muffler pipes. The Altima tips are large enough to slide over this bracket.

5) Take the Altima tips and slide them on. It will take some elbow grease to get them on. It will be tight because those prongs will be grabbing into the muffler pipes (like you want).

6) They will fit pretty tightly and friction hold them in place just like the way Nissan fit the tip to the muffler pipes on the Altima. There are no screws holding them in place. I will be checking the tips periodically to make sure they're not loosening up. I may use solder gun or a few dabs of JB weld to hold the tips in place just as a precaution, but as of right now, they're very tight and going no where.

Finished product. I'll post better pics in the daylight. Also provided is a pic of the OEM tips. Note how tiny they look in comparison.

Stock -POS!

Finished product

I should just go outside and check my car but, how did you take off the stock G tips? Is it just a nut and bolt holding it in?

Two nuts hold on each tip. Chances are when you try to remove the bolts, they'll shear off.
