i dont think thats the end-all-be-all for hr y pipes. i have an hr y pipe from 08 g35 sedan, and i highly doubt there would be any hp difference between a z or g y pipe.

Has anyone had any issues, or see any issues with the G37 Y pipe? It has shorter flex sections, but I've heard it has the same inlet/outlet size as the 350z hr y pipe.

the farther back you can push where the two pipes come together, the better off you are. so whichever year model Ypipe has the two coming together farther back in the exhaust, is the better one, imo. since the 07-08 350z Ypipe has longer flex tubes, that tells me its probably the winner here.

thats misleading. because the z is the shortest hr car, its unlikely its the furthest back coming together point. if you compare, what the z ypipe gains due to its long flex pipes, the g ypipe seems to gain back and then some after the flex but before the bend.

honestly, i believe they are all the same length overall, the mid pipe section seems to be whats different between z's, g's, m's, and fx's.

sorry for the ignorance, but when you say midpipe, you mean the pipe after the Y that goes to the back?

Whether to go with something that has been proven by multiple owners on this board as well as the Z board, or something that "look similar" is totally up to you.

I agree with you that they all "look the same", however, has anyone really gone out to measure them? Furthermore, why be different when there are proven/ commonly agreed results with the 350z HR ypipe =)

Just my 2 cents

I'm pulling off whatever Y pipe that I have Friday night. I'll take pics of it side by side my stock DE Y pipe so you guys can see what NOT to buy. The inner piping diameter on whatever pipe I got looks like a friggin civic exhaust diameter.

I ended up saying screw it and just ordered the Motordyne XYZ pipe with resonator. Lots of research and time went into that thing so I think it was a good choice. I'll also be putting my resonated test pipes back on too.

I think one of the things that tends to throw everyone off is the differences in the external heat shielding between the G37 and Z y-pipes.. the G is slimmer.. more "form fitting" to the exhaust piping, whereas the Z y-pipe is a bit more "boxier", especially at the collector... so it tends to look "shorter". I think if you were to first measure flange to flange (end to end), you'd find that they're the same length, in this respect, if you were to strip off the heat shielding, you'd find the down pipes are going to match up length wise TO the collector, differing mostly in shape and flex pipes... although the G pipe seems as if it MIGHT be smaller in diameter.. again hard to tell at a glance, with all the "armor" the Z pipe has...

My Y-pipe looks EXACTLY like the Z pipe.. WITHOUT the hockey pucks or brackets, my original was the mousy little stock "T-pipe", but my dealer slapped this one on for me for $90 (basically 1 hour of labor), while doing some other exhaust work and the car was on the lift and he had it laying around from an aftermarket install they did.

Bottom line folks... it's plumbing... as long as you get rid of the POS OEM "T-pipe" (looks more like a "T".. rather than a "Y").. and get ONE of these HR Y-pipes... you're going to improve the FLOW of your exhaust system... THAT is for sure! Just like the elusive HR Air box velocity stack issue...

They're NOT the "Holy Grail" of G-dom... get them.. install them and reap the benefits over the OEM pieces. Are they "the BEST"... probably not, but they're OEM, direct bolt on "upgrades" if you will... on a budget too!
