Rev-Up airbox on a VQ35DE - special note
Me too.
And OCG35, it's rather melodramatic to say this is the biggest waste of money ever. We're talking $34 net on a part you overpaid for (I got my used one shipped for $35). If you don't like the mod, fine, but a statement like yours sounds ridiculous.

This guy might think otherwise:

IHMO, just because someone might not able to discern a back to back driving test, doesn't mean the mod doesn't make a difference.
But if it makes you feel better to try to descredit a mod by trying to imply it's totally useless, then by all means, go for it.

^^^ if you can't tell the difference from driving and can't tell the difference from dyno and can't tell the difference from looking (once installed) then why have it?
Just that paragraph alone proves it's worthless... and it has nothing to do with "making me feel good" - I mean really? You can't accept a truthful response to the guy that asked if its worth it???

Because some people have noticed a difference. I never stated it made a dyno difference or not. I don't thibk anyone tried to dyno it
Just like your throttle body spacers Mike. Dyno said jack. But you swear up and down it made a difference.
Would I spend $85? No. I got mine for next to nothing from a broken Z box.
IMHO you have it out for DaveB more than anything else but that's just my opinion.
As far as the "feel good" statements, it was a put back on your about accusing others of having to justify the mod. So if it has nothing to do with the conversation, I'm not sure why you bought that statement up as a point of contention.

Jeff - I don;t know why you always insist on making these topics a personal thing and an off topic debate.
First of all, this is not a DaveB mod, he's not the first one to use the rev-up air box so I dont know why you take it off topic in that respect... secondly, there are several tbs blind tests (Gary and WaLLy just to name two) and many people that have noted a difference as well as dyno evidence (dyno day with DaveO @ Church, which I was not present, had several people get one) - I absolutely can tell the difference when the tsb is on/off and I even offered anyone interested to use a spare to determined the same for themselves... however, that topic has been beaten to death and pulverized, so again I don't know why you take it off topic in that respect.
And finally - If you were astute enough to pay attention to what I have posted (rather than be finger happy to debate), you would have understood that I said I have wasted plenty of money on my car - modding your car "to feel good" has nothing to do with posting an opinion to feel good... but as usual you take it to a completely off topic drama fest.
The bottom line is - vp-g asked if this mod was worth it... and a couple of you got your panties in a bundle because you didn't like my honest response.
Give it a rest Jeff - post regarding the topic for a change (somehow I dont think you are capable and I'm certain you will prove it within another few posts).

We are well aware of your opinion on this mod. I think you've arleady chimed in once before about it.
I'm not sure why you think it's me that's making a big deal out of it. You're the one claiming it's the biggest waste of time ever and Buckeye was the one that pointed your melodramatic reply.
To the issue of feel. there are those that have said they felt a difference with this mod too. So what's your point??
And as far as the dyno, Hydrazine himself was THERE when you dyno'd with the TBS then took it off and dyno'd it again. What was ther result? Yes, no difference.
No is upset about your opinin Mike. Please. Just sort of curious why you have to go all overboard with the description. MULTIPLE times.
Go ahead and chime again to mention:
1) I'm the problem when someone else pointed YOU out and not I.
2) How worthless you think this mod is when everyone pretty much already knows what to exect, what to pay and what your feelings are about it.
Some extra drama is what makes your posts worth the read

Jeff, please put your big boy pants on and stop getting pissy...

Boo-hoo... deal with it.

Here's my .02. I had the revup mod on the car and changed to the JWT pop. While I liked the look in the engine bay (filter's blue and so is my car), the sound is a little loud for my taste above 5000 RPM's. But the worst part is I lost a significant amount of thrust on the low end, and throttle response turned sluggish at low RPM's. The car is not nearly as peppy or responsive. Gas mileage remained nearly identical for both.
So, after 1000 miles with the pop, it's coming off this weekend and I'm putting the revup box back on. If you're not concerned with performance, just looks and sound the pop is the way to go. And if you're curious my other mods are a MD 5/16th, z tube, NGK iridium plugs, and an HR y-pipe among other things.
Anyone want to buy a nearly new JWT pop?

So if I have an 06 5AT I should have this airbox and shouldn't spend the money on a new intake?
So confused...
EDIT: I don't have the Revup engine so what components would I need to add to get the Revup airbox "setup" and where could I get them? Straight from Infiniti?

I still stick by what I said nearly 2.5 years ago about this mod:
I don't think any of us think there is more power to be had. Sometimes the best mods are the ones that improve overall driveability, not absolute power.
It does change the sound of the intake and makes the car sound really throaty, especially with the HR y-pipe. What I noticed the most was improved throttle response and I think that was point to the design. The RevUp lower intake manifold incorporates a shorter runner design that improves high rpm breathing, but hurts low torque and throttle response. The revised airbox may have been a way to restore some of the throttle response and low rpm breathing. On the torquey DE, this airbox is just gravy.
Placebo affect possibly?...
As I said previously, I'm certain on a controlled blind test - driver would not know which airbox is on the car (rev-up vs non rev-up)... I am so certain of this, I'd be willing to give $50 to anyone that can tell the difference - however, you give me $50 when you can not determine which one is on the car.
If anyone local is interested in this study let me know... and to those that want to Blabber on about all things other than this offer - save it.
