Those that use the 3" MAF....

What type of intake are you using in conjunction with the 3" MAF? On my Injen CAI the MAF slot is built into the pipe so I can't use the larger MAF.
Thanks!

I’m interested in this answer too, looking to swap in the Z1 3” MAF housing soon and I’ve got an Injen cold air too but my Injen intake is an earlier design and uses the stock MAF housing (not built into the Injen pipe).

In my semi build thread over on my350z.com i discussed this and few suggestions came up, but I decided to go with Samco hose and 80mm universal Apexi filter with a custom mounting plate.

Remember you will need to get tuned, cause the car wont run right without it if you install the maf.

I know about the tune, I am planning on getting all the stuff together and then heading north to visit Dave especially since I swapped plugs and installed the Berk HFC's..if I am going to have him check the tune I want to get everything done at once.

I am also looking at the R2C intake system...

By the way, the inlet and outlet of the MAF housing is actually not 3". it is 80mm (3.2") in the front and 76mm(3") on the back. So a 3" intake is going to be a lot smaller.

Did you see any difference using the 3" MAF and what kind of numbers are you getting now?

I don't understand your comment about the 3" intake...is this in referrence to the stock system, Injen or R2C?

I'm just saying that you will not find a VQ35 specific air intake that will fit on the 3" MAF housing perfectly since the largest diameter kit available is only 3". You can bolt it on but it'll be 0.2" smaller in diameter on the front side.

Here is what I am thinking: I bought a 9" S&B filter to put on the end of my Injen short ram CAI; since I already have the filter would it be the best for performance and cost to just buy the 350 Z tube, the 3" MAF housing and use my 9" filter?

Keep in mind it isn't really the filter size that matters......most don't come with a velocity stack and this is the key. Just adding an 80mm filter won't create the pressure and velocity of air needed to work well in conjunction with the maf. I use a jwt filter velocity stack/filter, z1 maf, and samco tube.......it works well and looks simple. I am not one for overly gaudy items so it suits my subtle tastes. I haven't gotten around to it, but for maximum gains it simply takes a bit of time at a machine shop to lathe the jwt stack to 80mm and it will be flush. YOU MUST GET THE CAR RETUNED FOR THE LARGER MAF. I don't mean install it an drive to the dyno......I mean install it after the car is already situated on the dyno. The car will struggle to idle if you can even get it too hold idle at all.

Pic for the visually inclined: (Yes the bay is dirty I know)

It is a fairly inexpensive mod on the surface, but if you are going from stock figure 125 for the maf with shipping, 125 for the samco tube, 110 for the pop (+some shop time if you decide to lathe it), and the cost of a retune. I would only do it (and did) after you have maxed out with the more conventional mods.

Would you share your impressions from the mod 03threefiftyz (feel and dyno, etc.)?
Thanks! It looks good!

So far it has easily been the highest whp upgrade I have done.....a lot of the recent 3" maf hype was caused by my impressions and results (jeez that comes of as vain, but oh well). Here is a dyno of stock (not my car, but an 03 6sp on file (bottom line 209whp), my car with pop, 5/16, ur pulley, test-pipes, turboxs y-pipe and exhaust, and tuned with Osiris (middle line 246-247whp), top line is previous mods with addition of z1 maf and smaco tube (262whp). These were not all done on the same day obviously, but the 246whp and 262whp were 2-3 weeks apart and the ambient temp was within 1 degree and the barometric pressure diff was negligible. I have gotten a bunch of requests and didn't have any overlay graphs so the 1st two lines I put in freehand. You get the point though. On the last run this was the second to last run and the tuner let off at 6300 (that is why there is the big dip). I don't know what happened to the final graph, but the power was within .5whp so. The car also makes very strong tq at 254 on this run.

I have had a few people ask for my dynojet and for the life of me I haven't been able to find it since I moved, but feel free to ask anyone who has been tuned at Function......262 is stout for an NA car. Once the temps cool down I will re dyno it on dynojet, but I have no interest in doing it with temps so hot.

After talking with Z1 today I ordered the black Samcon pipe and the silver 3" MAF housing...this should allow me touse my 9" filter I just bought...I will install everything but the MAF until I can head north to see Dave for a re-tune. I know it is bad karma to say it but after this I think I have done all I can as I am not doing FI, headers or cams.

Does this filter use a velocity stack?
