exhaust options, catback, hfc, testpipe
So I want to alter the tone of my exhaust, its a little too tame for me. I dont really care about looks and money is an issue, I would love to get an HKS exhaust but for the price its not really an option. I was thinking of going with a HFC, or maybe a testpipe, but im wondering if the stock exhaust would rasp really bad with a testpipe. Also I can pass smog with a HFC but obviously not with a test pipe. I was thinking about picking up a used system on marketplace for roughly 3-500? but not sure what kind of exhaust I can get, tanabi Medallion? Thanks guys any input you guys have on this issue would be greatly appreciated.
I just installed my Berk HFCs and they definitely add some growl to the exhaust (I have an invidia g200 exhaust already though) and mine is a bit droney now w/ all of the noise.. I'm sure stock exhaust would sound sexy with them though. They probably add more HP than a catback exhaust and are a good price from M-Motorsports
This is what the stock exhaust will sound like with test pipes.
In California, you won't pass smog with test pipes.
As much as people hate it/love it the X02 is still an option. People give it a bad rap since it will tend to rust easier and the fitment may be off. I had the X02 and didn't have any problems with rust and the fitment was slightly off. Nothing a muffler shop can't fix for cheap. Check out the links posted by C.

im really diggin the x02, I like the exhaust note and its cheap, I wouldnt have a problem with buying it new and if I can get a deal on it used in the marketplace well that would be like christmas and hanukkah coming together. Thanks guys for all the info, from what I hear there really isnt much to be gained HP wise from just a catback on the G huh?

^ some exhausts claim to gain some hp.. I think the motordyne actually has some gains, but nothing major.. I wouldn't really let that factor in your exhaust purchase especially if money is an issue
As for gains, I've see gains on the dyno. Just do a search. There is also a thread where someone dynoed the X02.
As for the not so accurate butt dyno, Most of the gains were noticeable above 4k RPM. You'll notice a lot more when paired with test pipes.
the xo2 gives gains. i remember a thread recently when someone dynoed their car after adding piece by piece. with a reflash and the xo2 he added like 20hp but he also had considerable bolt ons that helped open it up and possibly osiris tune too.
I like HFC sound over test pipes but test pipes are much cheaper. get the resonated test pipes.

In cabin: Tanabe Touring Medalion Catback + Stillen Y-Pipe, this is actually a 0-60.
Outside: Tanabe Medalion Catback + Stillen Y-Pipe
Full exhaust: DC Ceramic Headers | Kinetix HFC | Stillen Y-Pipe | Tanabe Touring Medalion Catback.
