45 dollar intakes gotta see this ne1 try em
Man, all these arguements about:
"you spent 35K on a car, but why 50 bucks on an Intake"
People need to spend your money smart, not waste them blindly. If you don't care how your $$ would spent, then go ahead, be my guest.
Reality sucks, bite it.
1. A custom mandrel bent setup + good filter is just as good as any expensive intake system. What you paid for is the brand. If you are afraid of heat soak, get them powdercoated. Still end up half as cheap.
2. Funny how a Turbo setup uses custom mandrel bent pipe..... oh wait, aren't those the same pipe as the cheap intakes? Why don't they buy those pipes from AEM. AEM, Injen, and all those expensive companies should start making pipes for all these custom turbo kit, since turbo kits puts a lot more pressure and airflow. Hm, let me find my old AEM sticks........slapping on a pipe would make it $200 more expensive. They must used gold mixed with Stainless Steel to make their intake.
End of Arguements.
I've seen people spend tens of thousands dollars on their cars, and theirs still look like crap, especially with all the stickers. Look at all these great custom setup, like SFR TT on Tinman's G. It's all custom. it outputs great and better than these pre-built kits like Greddy. Who's bashing them? Let me see someone bash those kits that uses the same custom made pipes.
However, don't take me wrong, Ebay's are mixed of good and bads. Those first two intake posted in this threads are ****ty, but please don't group all together, and bashing the rest. I thought people would learn to stop stereotyping already.
I'm going to sleep. Everyone, have a good night.

I'm gonna chime in here with my first post as well. Although I'm new to the G35 platform, I'm not new to cars, modding, or fabricating.
IMHO, and from what I've seen/experianced, dyno'ed, you arn't going to get "heat soak" with a metal intake tube. The air the motor is ingesting isn't "hanging around" inside the tube long enough to transfer an appriciable amount of heat to hurt power one bit.
Intercooler heat-soak is a much more viable problem, which can happen with a improperly sized car and/or not enough airflow. Enough of this, I've digressed.
I can easily go out in the shop and fab up a 3" aluminum intake to replace the "G" tube or whatever it's nicknamed. 1 3" aluminum 90 deg bend with 14" legs runs me ~$75 from burnsstainless. This is exactly why I'd either, A: find a "Z" tube, or B, snag a cheapy intake kit off ebay, keep the uppermost pipe, and toss the rest in the scrap aluminum bin.
Also, I'd never EVER use one of those cheapy ebay filters. K&N, Fram airhog?, or an amsoil one.
My .02$
btw, I just picked up a 03 (later?) model sedan for my DD. My fun car is an AWD talon, 3065fp turbo, AEM, etc...

dude, your getting ripped off! $45?
her's one for $35
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/03-05...QQcmdZViewItem
and for a little more i really like this one - its $37 but its worth it, its got a carbon fiber heat shield which is greate because you don't want your intake to get heat soaked
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Infin...QQcmdZViewItem
let me know which you go with, for these prices, you can afford to try different things

Amen! Someone is finally speaking the truth.

Congrat on the purchase
Thanks. That was supposed to be an "improperly sized CORE" not car, but I think ya got my point
Btw, this weekend I might have a chance to go home. I'll strap the car to my buddies dyno, and run it stock, and pull off the "G" tube and put a 3" aluminum pipe with a K&N in it's place. IF I have time to do this, I'll post results for sure

Arise Dead thread.. Arisssseeee....
Ok.. so.. I bought the Ebay Special. $10 intake, I think 20 for shipping.. That's how they beat the fees of course..
anyway..
I put the intake on and it's hella loud for starters..
But!!!...
the intake piping is about a 1/2 inch smaller in diameter than the stock TB.. This leaves me to believe it is causing a bit too much turbulance in the intake right before the TB.. That, to my understanding, is bad..
This will cause a disruption in the airflow when the air hits the TB and then folds up to go inside the TB.. That air then pushes the rest of the incoming air upward and as I said, causes turbulance..
The only other issue I have is the fact that it bends and then bends, and then bends. .lol.. it's not really that bad, it has 4 bends total, but they're very very gradual bends..
The Cheapo intake rests nicely into the nice "nook" that is set low to the ground behind the bumper area.. it's actually right behind that black "vent" on the fascia..
this houses a piece of solid foam that keeps the facia from bending I'm sure.... Now, what's nice about this area is .. It's MUCH MUCH cooler than the engine compartment after a 10 minute drive.. I didn't bring my digital temp reader with me, but I'll be sure to do so tomorrow when the temps outside are much higher..
The other nice thing about this spot that it gets routed to is the fact that this foam is so stiff that tiny dime sized holes can be drilled through in 5 spots without sacrificing the rigidity of it. I belive this thing could be better, but for $30.00 it's absolutely a great buy and seems to show some benefits. Whether it actually shows any fuel or performance gains can't be measured for at least another 20 miles. I prefer to believe the ECU will "relearn" it's a/f curves after about 20 miles of driving..
So, I will post more when I find out more..
For all you thinking I'm just wasting my time and that junk is junk and more money is better, you may be wrong, only time will tell..
I'm not cheap, by the way, I just don't see the point in wasting the money to have a name brand intake. I will be getting my kinetix HFC and Plenum soon..
That's all for now.. More will be posted tomorrow when I get some temps off the intake area..

I know it's not the same, but.. if I can drive my car with a $10.00 intake and have it work just as well as a $300.00 intake then what's wrong with that.. and... wouldn't it be better if I documented everything for all others to see..
People on this forum must be loaded or something.. To me.. Spending $300 on something that I can get for $10.00 is like seeing $290.00 laying on the ground and saying.. Ahhhh, why bend down to get it.. .. and then just walking past it.
It's just down right silly to me..
Now.. Am I saying this thing is as good as a Stillen, or Injen or any other name brand intake? No.. I'm not.. am I saying it may be as good or better?
Yes, I am saying that.. I am simply saying no one REALLY knows yet. It's not until someone actually gets one and tries it out that we know if its a decent part or not...
It's like the "electric superchargers".. Everyone was skeptical about them.. hmm.. everyone was right.. but.. it wasn't until truckin' USA actually bought one and tested it that I KNEW it wasn't worth a penny and was more of a restriction than anything else. Well, just consider me your own "truckin' USA" for now.. I'm throwing my $30.00 (after shipping) into the flame to see what happens. If it's garbage I will end up taking the metal and making a nice hampster cage or something.. If it's good and I have proof with better gas milage or something then I think a lot of board members will benefit from it.
That being said.... it's time to start getting ready for a drive..
