I told them I could do it myself, how much for the bulb and socket? $15.95... for 2? NO FOR ONE BULB AND SOCKET.

So i bought one to make sure it was the bulbs out and decided to do a little DIY myself on replacing the second bulb.

Here is what you will need to do to replace it for $1.99

1. Remove the plastic dash around the clock. You need to pull it directly toward the seats NOT UP towards the windshield.

2. Unplug the car alarm LED

3. The clock is held in by 2 screws, unscrew them.

4. Unplug the wire connecting the clock

5. There are two grey or black circle sockets, take a screw driver and just twist them half a turn and they should come out.

6. There is a yellow...sock....over the bulb, gently take it off.

7. On the underside of the socket you need to take something like a needle and unwind the wire from around ther bottom of the socket.

8. Straighten out wires and pull the "grain of wheat" bulb out.

9. Go to fry's and get a "grain of wheat" bulb 12v or 14v, strip the wires to match the bulb you took out, and basically instert the new bulb in, put the little yellow sock thing back on it. Twist the wire around the socket like it was orginally on, and plug it back in.

I hope this helps anyone before they try and have the dealer do it or pay $15 for a single bulb.
or if you are cool with your tech and didnt make him do a bunch of free work without thanking him you can ask him for a bulb...my tech keeps all kind of spare parts in his work station. i tipped him when he installed my new clutch and flywheel when my trans got replaced, he never had any issues warrantying issues based on what i tell him

LED Replacement

First, thanks to all of you for all the tips that you put out. I changed the brakes on my G35 because of the DIY tips in here. (Axxis Deluxe Advanced, which are very nice)

I needed to change the bulb in my '03 clock. I took your advice and found a LED light that works perfectly-turn and lock and you are done, no re-wiring.

autolumination is a company that sells these replacement bulbs. I emailed them on a Sunday and they replied within 1/2 hour. Here is what I ordered:

Type B
10mm= 3/8"

Neowedge
Item # Single Led Color: Super White
Lens: Type B Led
$2.99 USD

The direct link to this bulb is HERE

I went with the Super white though they have different colors to choose from. I kept the orange "socks" in case I want to match the rest of the dash. So far I like the white.

Chris and Tracy at AutoIllumination were unbelievably helpful, I highly recommend them!

For those that don't want LED's, here's a link to the correct bulbs on Fry's website. I bought a pair of eBay that ended up not fitting correctly. Got these from Fry's and they work perfectly after you *carefully* strip off the wire shielding:

Philmore 480 Grain of Wheat Bulb, 12V, 75mA (Frys.com part #: 2764843) $1.99

Apparently we (g35driver) cleaned Frys out on these bulbs...

They are SOLD OUT!

There are some other places on the net that sell these. One place I found sells them in Clear, Amber, Green and Red but I think you have to by qty.100 which still only costs 15 bucks more than what the dealer charges for 1 bulb

Maybe someone can buy a 100 pack for $40 and sell them to our members???

Just a suggestion...

For those of you who do not have a Frys near you, you can also go to radioshack
