My repair thread

As many of you know I was rear ended to the tune of 9k plus in damage. I am tinkering around and doing an hour here and an hour there of stuff to the G. Car is at the shop and hopefully gets on the frame machine soon. In the mean time I got a few small things out of the way. Ill update this as I go and will document the entire process all the way to final paint.

As you can see Nismo lip took awful shot.


But I heated and cooled then heated and cooled. Not too bad.


Little more tweaking and a coat of polyester putty and finally primed.


Then I made another set of shaved battery cover's, since I sold the last set I made.



Bumper I got needed work but it was a great price, Free! And trust me even free was too much. Hours of heat to reform bumper and some SEM carbo fill got it looking respectable. Then I drilled holes for the Nismo lip and test fit. Also heated lip to get a better fit to the bumper.


So next up I will mold the lip to the rear bumper. Assuming the hurricane does not swallow the East Coast!

Dude... Frame is frame... Total it out and move on... It's going to be a lot of hassle.... Plus it just makes it harder to sell after everything has been redone...

Praise Jesus!!!! Glad to see you whippin her back into shape, Steve! It made me smile to see that rear lip (authentic Nismo) was salvageable!!!

Its the end of a rail. Are you under the impression frame damage equals totaled? Ends of rails are very common to replace. In fact Nissan sells just the end of the rail. I have been working in shops since 1999, this is child's play compared to what Ive seen. Besides wouldn't you like to get paid $45 per flat rate hour to work on your own car? I know I do. Besides find me a clean G for 12k including 7% sales tax in NewEngland with a 6mt and 0 problems. This car has had all parts that fail replaced under warranty. Im keeping her.

The car was not totaled and yes I'm doing all the work at the shop I work at, that is when my back is not completely ****ed. The frame rail and slight pull it needs will be done by the foreman at work since that's all he does. We have laser measuring system and a baller expensive welder like the factories use. The double sided spot welder I call it, not sure the real name but it does a perfect weld every time since its a computer not a human.

I have mechanic friends but need a body shop friend too. lol

Welded up mt.fuji holes and fixed the dents on top. Now I gotta figure out what color to trim underside. bwahaha
