Is this a fair price for a 2006 g35 coupe ?

Hi!

this is my first post and hopefully there’ll be more to come.

I recently got a decent paying job and my birthday is coming up soon, so I decided to treat myself to a new car this year.

I did a lot of research, and I finally have my heart settled on a 2006 g35 coupe! I just love the styling and that engine!

Recently, I’ve been doing a lot of shopping and I found the exact G I want! However, I’m not sure if they’re overcharging for it or not.

I’ve looked at other dealers and they seem to be asking around the same price. Also, private sellers do seem to go for much cheaper, but they’re not as clean.

What do you guys think? I would love some feedback and advice.

Also, I am turning 25 this Friday and I do plan on financing the car.

Not exactly sure what the Cali market is like right now but I just bought my 03 sedan 3 weeks ago. While cross shopping for it nationally on several web sites, and locally, I came across quite a few excellent condition coupes similar to what you posted within 10k miles or so selling between 7500 and 9000ish.

For me the price is on the higher side but if you're willing to travel or have your car shipped you may save a little bit more than what they're charging.

If you go that route, most definitely a PPI at a Nissan or Infiniti dealer on the car you decide is a must. I did that with my 2nd G35 (05 6MT sedan) I got from Louisiana and had shipped to Illinois back in 2015 and the deal worked out great

I remember seeing this one a couple days ago. Its an 05 Athens Blue on Clist w/ 70K miles in the Bay Area for 7900.
If your heart is set on black I understand BUT if you're open to other colors and years, that could be a contender.

It's not a terrible price, it's basically what I would expect from a used car dealership. As long as the clutch doesn't slip AT ALL, the tires have good tread, there's plenty of brake pads left, and most importantly that it PASSES a pre-purchase inspection from your local Nissan or Infiniti then I'd say buy it.

Looks 100% stock, does not have the aero package, does not look like it has the premium package either which would include the bose stereo and the dual zone climate.

Their pictures are incredibly POOR which makes me think they're trying to hide the fact it doesn't have those options. It looks like a 6MT (automatically has the sport suspension/VLSD/19" wheels with the 6MT) with the sunroof as the only option.

If it DOES have the premium package and it DOES have RAS (turn ignition ON look for the RAS light to illuminate on the dash) then it would definitely be worth $10k at a used dealership with that mileage.

My biggest concern is that it's on the stock clutch, if so you might get a year or two out of it before it slips. See if it has a service history, also this is the rev-up engine which is a notorious oil drinker so you MUST check the oil weekly and top it off.

As for what you can actually tell from the shitty pictures, it has a ripped driver seat, and it looks like a cat may have pissed in the back seat you can see a big drip mark that is probably cat ****.

Thanks for the advice tiguy!

I would prefer one that has the rev-up engine.

Not the best condition Gs seem to be going for around 5 grand, while cleaner ones seem to be going for around 7-8 in Cali.

That car is a beauty, but the only problem is that it’s automatic. I’m only interested in getting a manual.

I’ll keep my eyes open before I pull the trigger! I’ll definitely consider out of state

Normally you just call ahead to Nissan/Infiniti and ask them how much lead time they need for the PPI and arrange a price. Sometimes you can sweeten the deal by getting them to throw in a free oil change if you purchase the vehicle since they're probably going to charge a 1 hour labor fee of $125. However if you aren't familiar with inspecting vehicles it's money well spent because it can help prevent buying a vehicle that's going to need some expensive repairs done or has hidden damage.

I typically do my own inspections but I've been working on cars for a LONG time and know what to look for.

I always insist that I be present for the first cold-start of the day, I will put my hand on the exhaust manifold and block (or use an IR thermometer if I remember to bring it) to make sure they aren't bullshitting me. Stand at the tailpipe while they start the cold engine and use your eyes and nose, look for any little puff of smoke but usually you will smell it if it's too faint to see.

Bring an inspection mirror and flashlight, look over the ENTIRE undercarriage for damage, check for blown bushings, torn CV axle boots, corroded exhaust fittings, excessive dents, leaking transmission output shaft seal, any fluid drops puddling on components.

Next go to the engine bay, if it looks like they pressure washed the thing turn around and walk away, anyone who will pressure wash a computer is a fool and you'll be chasing electrical gremlins for the life of the vehicle.

If the aluminum engine bay components are severely corroded (it will look like salt is dried onto it) then walk away, someone either sprayed it with a caustic cleaner or something along those lines (if it has 4WD they may have driven it along the edges of the ocean, no bullshit) and like the pressure washing, walk away or you'll be chasing electrical gremlins for the life of the vehicle.

During the cabin inspection be sure to push EVERY SINGLE BUTTON and make sure literally EVERYTHING is in working order.

During the test drive get up to highway speed in 6th gear and punch the throttle to the floor, if the rpm's jump a tiny bit and don't climb 100% smoothly with speed then the clutch is starting to slip, walk away unless you can talk them down in price to cover the repair cost which is usually $2k for a shop to do the work, about $750 if you do it yourself with a single mass flywheel.

Check the parking brake to make sure it will hold the vehicle when you put it in gear.

And I know it sounds wierd but sniff every seat, on a cool day the smell of years-old feces or urine will not be detectable until you're nose is inches from the seat but I guarantee on the first hot sunny day the whole cabin will smell like baby diapers. Fortunately cat **** is so pungent you can't hide it.

Some peoples babies DESTROY the back seat of the car, I've spawned two of my own and never had a problem but some people don't change those diapers frequently and it leaks out the edges, through the car seat, and pools in the base of the leather.

Cleric, your post should be a sticky.
OMG.. .it doesn't get any more clear than this!

Josue,

if the seller even looks at you funny for requesting a PPI before you buy the car. .. Walk away!

Most scammers would get leary when you start looking over he car like Cleric said that's a dead giveaway.

RUN!!

Had to walk away from a couple G35s I really wanted bc they turned out to be dogs after looking over them

Cleric, your advice is GOLD
