Hotels:
Hotel buckminster is a bit old. If you have some extra $$ check out Hotel Commonwealth. They have a bar there (Foundation Lounge), Eastern Standard (really good food with a sh*tloads of cocktails... and beer. lol)
You can always check Copley for hotels and just take the green line to the House of Blues. Marriott Hotel (is nice, dont let the craigslist masseurs scare you away), The Parker is nice. Westin is nice. Etc etc.
Bars:
There is a good amount around fenway. (Jillians? lol, Cask and Flagon, Game On, Boston Billards, etc) I would rather check out the bars around the Boston Common or Copley area. Just to name a few: Gypsy Bar, Whiskey Park, Sanctuary, Suite, The Place, Pearl, Estate, Cactus Club (or any bar on the boylston st strip thats near cactus), Clerys, Rattlesnakes, etc etc.
