Angry Fried my starter

damn remote start... started the car, came outside a couple of minutes later and heard the engine sounds very loud and weird. turned it right off - only to smell burning plastic smell. then it dawned on me that the starter must have been spinning with the engine. tried to start the car again a few minutes later - nothing... starter must be fried. calling AAA, will tow to infiniti of serramonte.

doubt this will be covered under warranty, unless you got a real cool relationship with the service advisor or technicians. good luck!

the warranty is out - i have 80+k on my car. besides, this is directly induced by an aftermarket item, so, i doubt it would be covered in any case... dropped the car off at the dealer... will let you know tomorrow what came of it.

This is one very important function G is missing.
Car is expensive enough to have some kind of sensor installed that will shut starter down if engine is running already.

Good luck.

internal starter failure. talked to Pete. he said the damage may have been introduced by the extra heat generated by aftermarket headers (crawford headers) - i've had them since june of 2005, so ~25k miles.

they are overnighting the starter - it's gonna be ~$680 installed. ouch indeed. i've also asked about the TSB on the driver seat rail - it's not covered by the warranty, since the warranty is out - i'll let you know how much it's gonna be. i also asked them to quote me on new spark plugs - i've had Iridium Denso IKH16 (stock temperature) spark plugs since march of 2006, and the car has been idling rough progressively worse since then.

all in all - all this aftermarket crap is catching up with me... it's ok. this is a first mechanical problem i've had with my car (that wasn't mod-induced, per se), so, i'm taking it easy and not too upset. as always, i'll keep you guys posted.

i am glad my uncle owns ASE and i get starters at cost. wierd that they would over night when most of those parts are stocked.

JESUS JUMPING JACK CHRIST!!!

factory spark plugs = $300
driver seat assembly = $950

i told them to forget both, put some grease on the driver seat to see if it stops creaking. screw it. i'll just crank the tunes up a bit - and voila, noise is gone.

I'm pretty ignorant on these things but wouldn't something that was a TSB be covered anyway? I would think it should be if they know it is a known problem, of course, I don't get to make the rules.
