Andy, glad to see you are still trying to get the answers to the dreaded sat nav, have just signed up over here as the threads for our cars seem to be far and few between on the UK skyliners owners site ???
For what its worth sourced a user manual for an infinity G35 coupe from the states, not cheap(24 quid off e bay ) but worth it,easier to read than the *** hand book I have !!!

Hi ,
hope you enjoy !!
Followed your post on the battery issue,is all ok now ???
Does appear to be a problem, having spoken to the previous owner of my car he said he had to replace the battery late last year.
off topic Black is a sod to keep clean ??????????????

Cheers mate, I got my manual whilst on holiday in Florida last Feb. The dealer threw in a SATNAV manual for free (2003 model). I've found a guy in the UK who works for Nissan and he said if I can give him part numbers for the existing unit, he might be able to obtain English buttons
Cartronics in weybridge appear to have a conversion if the original sat bird disc is to hand,I have mine and I guess this could be used on other cars, problem is that the cost is sky high,if we could get a few of us to go for the conversion would he reduce the cost, its got to be less than a grand, even that is expensive compared to tom tom ???
I totally agree. The cost is very high but I'm paying for the ability to use the cool pop-up screen. I don't think I could stand having a Tom Tom stuck on my dash.
I'm going to talk to Cartronics Saturday morning. If anyone is near Byfleet it would be great to meet up. (My mobile is 07801 669833)

Andy would have been great to have seen you there, but have to do a 40 mile bike ride tommorow, yes serious !!!,4 of us are going to do the London to Southend bike ride in July but have to put in just a wee bit of training, dont want all my sponsers to know I only got as far as Leytonstone !!!
Let us know how you got on !!
If you get a good price I am interested, got to be better than a tom tom, your right.

Good for you mate. I did the London to Brighton (50 mile) bike ride back in 98. What a buzz.
Yes, Cartronics can convert the SATNAV, but at a cost!
There are two options
1) Keep the existing SATNAV screen and install a new DVD ROM some where out of sight. This would be operated by a remote control handset. All for £1250 + radio conversion for £250.
2) Replace the existing screen, radio/cassette and upper console surround with a new surround with double din opening to take a new Pioneer SATNAV/iPOD/Traffic Reports/UK radio/DVD/CD, inc steering wheel controls for £2150
I'll probably opt for the second option, as I'll get more functionality. Option 1 is very limited to what it can do.
Expensive...but worth it

What about leaving the existing controls and buying a separate sat nav (Tom Tom/Road Angel etc)? This is even cheaper! Or do what has been done to my car - the previous owner installed a different centre console that has no pop up screen or controls, and instead it houses a 7" fixed screen with the sat nav in the top glovebox. you must be able to get hold of this different centre console as it has the same finish as the console below it.
Alternatively, know where you are going.....!

Thats what I was trying to explain in my previous post. The cool pop-up screen will go
and be replaced with a coin box.BUT I'll have all those crazy new gadgets to play with
Andy, just a thought, will things change next year when the 350 gt becomes an official uk car ???
Presuming the centre consul remains the same or similar,we should be able to retain that pop up screen ect ect,and possibly for a lot less than 2k ??
Like you I am a bit reluctant to loose the pop up screen, but then I am not in dire need of Sat Nav !!! and my radio has been converted already.
Must admit when a few years ago a local car hi fi specialist replaced my wifes imported MX5 stereo it sounded awesome, didnt realise how crap the *** to english conversions on the radio were !!!
At this point in time I am going to wait, really do want to retain that pop up screen !!!!!!!!!!!!!If you go ahead let me know
Off topic did the 40 miles on our bikes now ready for the London to Southend ride !!!!
Rather do it in my Skyline !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello all,
sorry it's a bit off topic.
I'm visiting London and currently staying at Guilford, I'd like to know where can I go to check out some tuned out cars, where are the gatherings?? I want to see how you guys do it here in the UK

Depending what you mean by "tuned out cars" I would look on forums such as the GTR register, Nissan Skyline owners club, Scoobynet, SXOC, Teamshock, Volkszone, Driftworks, UJCC etc as there are many local meetings but the best ones are the national meetings that are happening around the country at the moment. Most of the car clubs attend such meetings.
I go to a meeting in Reading which is covers all makes of Japanese cars which is very popular. Its on the third Tuesday of each month and its only 35 miles from Guildford - again details are on most Japanese car club forums.
Alternatively buy a modified car magazine as most of the large meetings are advertised in them.

I too don't have a dire need for SATNAV, but as it's fitted, & a lot of upmarket cars have them fitted now, I thought "What the hell". It'd be good to have for visiting national shows. It beats trying to read a map whilst driving.
Cartronics did say that the radio conversion would be adequate but not brilliant, and would depend on the station you were trying to tune into and where you were at the time.
I'll let you know the outcome.
Well done with the bike ride.
