Is it not risky just to fool the ECU?

So, does the JDM car aso have the 155mph rev limiter too?
This is a 3.5 V6, a 300bhp powerful engine designed to cope easily with higher speeds. The japanese limit it to 180kph, the americans limit it to higher (I think same as UK - 155mph) But that's not because the engine cannot cope with higher speeds. It's all political. I thnk in europe, the germans are to blame for the 155mph limit (BMW or Mercedez, can't remember who started and others followed) it. It's perfectly legal to remove the limit. The way mine was done (so I'm told), was to change the limit from 180kph to 180mph, just as the speedo/odo was changed to show miles rather than kilometers.

I'm guessing that some importers upped the 180kph limit to 155mph to fit in with UK cars, but this is not necessary really. Test out the 180kph yourself. As for the 155mph, well that's a little more tricky to test out

Dazz and David know much more than me and I'm sure will expand, but in summary, no damage can be done by de-restricting.

I have posted a question about my SLIP light comming on unexpectidly when just overtaking. It's pretty un-nerving when that happens I'm thinking of taking her in to Nissan for checking. I assume they can plug her into their computer for diagnostics?? Anyone else had this kind of problem? Maybe it's normal, just unusual in dry conditions and I have pushed her harder before without the light comming on.

Cheers guys[/QUOTE]

What's up guys...glad to see that the UK loves this car as much as we do in the US...
About you experiancing your slip light (VDC) during dry conditions...this is pretty normal as the VDC system is very intrusive...in wet conditions it works very well I think...but during dry road conditions it is a pain in the a**! Myself and most of my friends turn the system off when driving around town and turn it back on when on the highway...

yes i agree, i always drive with the vdc off, unless its raining/slippery, as they can cut in too early if you "like driving"

the ECU is self learning, so any minor mods to intake / plenum/ or limiters will not affect her at all.

get um off and get some in.

Think its time to delimit then. Have put it off so far (talk about restricitive but it does keep the missus happy!). I used NCS up in Donnington to get the car SVA'ed interms of the KPH to MPH conversion and they were great about it - even tho the first time it didn't quite work as the software was acting up!

Think I'll go down the HKS route for starters and then I'll have to work out where there is a stretch of road without said speed cameras, helicopters, blues and twos and motorcycles. Oh hang on, I live in Berkshire. Nevermind - I'll have to get to an airfield then. Anyone know of one in the South or S.Midlands that allows decent speed runs?

Greg

I think my car has actually been derestricted, but I wasn't sure wheather to attempt to try it out. I got the dealer who imported it to do the SVA and derestricting stuff having previously had an imported JDM Subaru I was aware of the 112mph restriction and specifically asked for it to be removed.

Sounds like I need an airfield to try it out on. Just out of curiosity mind

Thanks very much for the information. Very reassuring.

There's 47 of us here in the UK which makes us pretty rare in the millions and millions of cars here (mostly BMWs ).

its nothing like a 350Z that bit must be made clear from the offset, same engine and a few similar running gear bits, but thats where it stops.
2008...will be no problems, once they get the equptment/software etc, but at the moment , you have as much idea as they do.
so a competent indipendant guy would be just as good, if not better in my book, because hes not trying to copy 350Z info.

also de limiter is a must (are you kidding????)
i have the 155mph rev limiter also removed, and with mods she is pulling a indicated 172 mph (sat nav recorded speed)

you know it makes sence.
David - I have visited a Nissan dealership today in the midlands and they say they can manage the car. They have the software etc and already look after another 350GT. Sounds promising, I haven't used them yet, but maybe your dealer should get in touch with them ????

Dazz

It's the dealership just outside the City Centre in Birmingham:

http://www.westwaynissan.co.uk/deale...?DealerID=1650

I am planning to take her in for a service in the next few weeks and will ask them to run diagnostics (to test them). Certainly they did not show any reaction to the car like other dealers, which is positive in terms of they must have dealt with these cars before (as they said). It is a major dealership so I thought it was the best bet.

When you go and get your car serviced, see if they can give a 15% discount to "g35driver" forum members. That will give us an incentive to drive upto Birmingham!
