alarm sensor... I too wish it was a sensor to indicate its open (with light on dash)... I raced down 1/8 mile track with mine open (safety latched)

Also wish there was an indicator on dash for trunk unlatched/open (sedan)

get a simple alarm...one of those buzzers you find at small shops / convenience stores that alert the store owner that a customer has come through the door. you can put the wired contact on the core support and the reflector contact on the hood. when they separate a tone will sound. you can get power from the battery.

ok, for $10 more you get an LED, a resistor, and wire that into the speaker on the alarm. instead of a tone, you'll get a light

but what does it actually do, I mean a sensor usually check for something and depending on what the reading is (in this case closed or open hood) the ECU (i guess) tells the car to do something. Example would be the door open/closed sensor ...a little warning light goes on if its open.

I feel like im taking crazy pills. Its like a nissan engineer just said...oh and lets put in a hood sensor...but it wont actually be connected to anything useful ...nor will it warn the driver that the hood is open. Its like having smoke sensors...but not having them connected to any light/buzzer/flasher/"hey get the F#! out of the building cuz its burning thingi"

its an alarm, like OCG35 said. if the hood is opened when the doors are locked / the alarm is armed, the horn will start honking.
