With instructor and timing.
HYDRAZINE IS REGISTERED !!!!!!!! #456 Yeha!!!!
BTW. Are there any experienced G35 drivers that wouldn't mind taking a lap or two with me in the Sedan? I'm a good driver despite having no professional training, but I would like to quickly learn (from an experienced driver) the safest and best techniques for driving effectively.
I have heard the Sedan is prone to snap over-steer at high speed/ high lateral G. Is this true? If yes, I want to be particularly careful with learning how to deal with snap-oversteer at high velocity. I have a beautiful wife and baby girl at home I want to take care of for a long time. =)
In Theory, practice and theory are the same.

Re: OCT-1 ... Open Track event (Buttonwillow)
Good deal Tony!
Your instructor should be able to show you the best line around the track. You are more than welcome to flag me down to sit in w. you or take a ride w. me for a few laps.
Since you have the 6mt Sedan, it is less prone to 'snap' oversteer like the non-Sports Suspended version. It's mostly the skinny 215 tires to blame.
If you'd like to be safe, I would recommend trying your first session w. VDC on. Once you're comfortable and familiar w. the course layout ... explore w. VDC off, but kick the speed down a notch. Slowly crank her up each lap, until you start to experience oversteers, at which point you'll make a mental note that is roughly your car's envelope for that particular condition. For the next few sessions, hover close to that point and really learn to communicate w. you car and you'll be set!

For once in my life, I disagree with Clint. Don't turn VDC OFF until your 2nd event, at least. Being that this is your first time, you'll want the comfort of knowing that VDC is there to save your A$$. Sorry Clint, are we still friends? <-----listen to the STUDENT question the INSTRUCTOR =)

Re: OCT-1 ... Open Track event (Buttonwillow)
No worries Randy. No offense taken.
That recommendation came under the assumption that Tony's "a good driver", as he stated.
Certainly, everyone should use their own better judgement to determine wether they're ready to turn VDC off or not. But, if there's any place to do it ... it's on the track. I'll point out (as well as Speedventures at the drivers meeting) where on the track one shouldn't tempt their fate ... the rest of Buttonwillow is fairgame and quite forgiving if you do go off. This is why it's one of my favorite track.
By all means, feel free to leave VDC on for as long as you'd like and don't feel even a little bit imbarassed about it doing so either!
Cheers,
Clint (THX723)

Re: OCT-1 ... Open Track event (Buttonwillow)
Guys and gals, feel comfortable in leaving the vdc on for as long as you like. Indeed, there is real learning value in feeling when it kicks in. Once you start to get the hang of what you are doing, you will discover that it kicks in when it is not wanted, and that is when you start turning it off, and as Clint says taking it down an notch and working back up.
You cannot run really fast with the vdc on. You just can't. But you can learn, and that is what this is about. Thus, for a first time experience for most of us. Leave it on. If later in the day you want to play with it off because you are feeling more comfortable, fine. I did my first two events with it on. By the third I had to take it off because it was upsetting the balance of the car in certain corners where I was learning to go faster and the vdc was confused with what I was doing on purpose. By the fourth event, it was totally off, and I drive with it off on the street, except for when it is wet. But you have to learn how and that takes time. So relax, take it slow, and little by little you creep up to where you are going fast, safely.
This is really going to be fun with the layout chosen.

Clint,
Tein Flex with EDFC goes on Saturday! What do you think the drop should be?
