I had originally signed up for Sunday before I found out that everyone is going on Saturday. I hope that Speed Ventures doesn't charge my card twice. I sent them an email to ask them to cancel the registartion for Sunday.

Take a look at the list, not a single AT is coming! Why is that? Maybe it is stick envy?!?

Clint,
What do you think will they do the right thing?

Thanks,

Mike

Re: OCT-1 ... Open Track event (Buttonwillow)

Mike,
No worries. Aaron and John at Speedventures are very easy to work with. If it turns out they double charged you, call or e-mail them back and it will be credited back to your account appropriately.

One thing I have to say about Speed Ventures is that they really have their stuff together. They seem to be true professionals. Can't wait for 10-2-4.
Is everyone driving up that morning or is it better to spend the night out there?

I suspect nearly all of us will be driving up early morning. Just be sure you have a very decent sleep the night before (easier said than done!).

Join us for breakfirst at Denny's!

Re: OCT-1 ... Open Track event (Buttonwillow)

Is Dennys by the track? Are there many hotels near the track?

I noticed that I have to have a SA95 or newer helmet. The SCCA is still allowing SA90 or newer. If I show up with a SA90 will they not let me drive?

Re: OCT-1 ... Open Track event (Buttonwillow)

There is a Super 8 Motel in Buttonwillow (which is more of a truck stop than a town, actually), right alongside the edge of the Interstate 5. The motel is about three miles or so south of the Lerdo Highway, which is where the track is located ( an exit or two north of the motel, then left and west to the track about a half mile. No way to get lost, the track office is the ONLY thing out there that is more than 12 feet high. The parking lot at the motel is usually stocked with half a dozen or so high performance cars from enthusiasts that have come from farther away, like SF, Las Vegas, San Diego, etc. It is pretty reasonably priced, rooms are small but clean. Little bit of truck noise from the highway. I will probably come late Friday night and flop there. You absolutely need good rest, because the adrenaline drain from the track driving will drain you.

Re: OCT-1 ... Open Track event (Buttonwillow)

Any idea if the 1/4 mile drag strip be available? I'd like to make a few runs. =D

Finally a chance to open it up without traffic or CHP. This'll be fun.

In Theory, practice and theory are the same.

Re: OCT-1 ... Open Track event (Buttonwillow)

I'm not certain the 1/4-mile strip will be open ... since they'd need someone to operate the lights and safety crew standing by. I suspect after lots of passes on the track .. you'd find going straight rather boring

The skid-pad should be ok ... though. I may go out there towards the end of the day to eat some donuts

Re: OCT-1 ... Open Track event (Buttonwillow)

I meant no harm with the "Stick Envy" remark. Just an observation. I know many people who have given up sticks due to arthritis and other geriatric diseases. J/K.
