Agree that only Dino is bogus info. Nowhere in owners manual says Dino preferred. Nowhere on TSB says must use Dino oil. My dealer was servicing my G with Synth, Castrol 5w-30 and started OC testing with that...not an issue at all. Switched dealers during testing (long story why) and second dealer wanted only Dino. I said first dealer had no problem using Synth and where on TSB says it must be Dino...they accepted my Synth after I called them out on that.

If the engine was replaced by Infinti, it will be in its history and any dealer has access to that info. Infiniti just replaced my M-35 06 engine with less than 30,000 miles on it. I have not checked but it is my understanding that the id number on the block identifies it as a factory replacement engine.

I know that when I used full syn I used almost twice as much oil as regular which was a quart per thousand for syn vs 1/2 quart for dino. No problems with Infiniti replacing my long block on my 06 M-35 and oddly enough work order shows that it was filled with 5w30 syn blend brand new from dealer. I did 2 changes within 1000 miles using dino 5w30 and mobil 1 filter. A little oil consumption for the first 200 hundred miles but really none after that. I did break in the engine with spirited driving not exceeding 4000 and really varying rpms. Used the throttle a lot but never pulled more than 3/4 throttle or 4000 until close to 1200 miles. I am amazed at how different this engine is over the orig. I have had 4 versions of the 3.5 but this was the only thirsty one.

Now what if the Dealer is now using Synthetic Blend in the engine , would this cause the OC and damage my engine . My car is only at 37000 and its due for a oil change on the 29th of next month or within the nex 300 miles . The synthetic oil that you guys switched to is it the blend or the straight syn?

Synth is not the cause of this OC issue and does not damage engine.

My original VQ ran dealer dino (Castrol GTX) up till 15K, then dealer switched me to Castrol SynTec. That VQ drank oil regardless.

On my replacement, I used a blend, changed often and then switched to 100% Synth at 5K, but that's me = doing very good and still improving as it continues to break-in. These are not 100% done with break-in at 1200mi. My UOA's prove that statement.

I have a 2005 G35 I bought used at ~10K miles. My G also has an oil consumption issue. I am unclear as to the maintenance record required to receive the warranty work. I've read somewhere on the thread that you just have to purchase the oil change at the dealer and start the OC test and previous oil change/maintenance record is not required. And my dealer service guy told me I need to have previous record of oil changes with mileage at the time they were changed written on the receipt. Since I bought mine used, I don't have the record of previous changes and I've also lost couple of my receipts that I did myself. Will I be denied service work?

Have dealer run your VIN. If previous owner did service with any other Infiniti dealers, those services will show in your dealers national database.

Keep in mind that under 'normal op' conditions, recommended oil service intervals is every 7500 miles not 3750. So if DIY receipts not lost in successions, you may be okay with knowing every 7500 mi is within warranty to stay valid. Most don't make it an issue. They just start with fresh oil/filter and start the OC testing.

Z-Tube...had no dealer issues with mine nor my aftermarket exhaust. I didn't have a MREV, so can't really advise around that from personal experience. If you have a spacer with MREV (most do), spacer could raise an eyebrow

I just finished my OC test and the master tech recommended a new long block. My advisor put in a claim to Infiniti to replace the motor but it was denied because i have an 04 automatic and the replacement is for the rev up motors and i have minor engine mods (350ztube and popcharger). I called Infiniti consumer affairs and they said they will look into why my claim got denied. Any other advice on how to go about solving this problem?

Depending what was the main cause of OC (usually rings), non-revups usually only get short blocks, unless top end is thrashed too.

Revups get long blocks b/c they later found (and this when first TSB was finally released) valve guide seals were crap as well, unlike non-revups. So that = long blocks for revups by default.

Non-revups don't use TSB oil consumption chart to my knowledge. Different amount of OC must be met to quality last I knew.

On a lighter side of things, maybe dealer used wrong part number for replacement. Revup and non-revups have different pt #'s.

Z-Tube and Pop Charger shouldn't be an issue.

Hope things get straightened out for you and in your favor.

Looks like I may have an issue. I have owned my G35 for 1 month and driven it 1000 miles to date. I checked my dipstick after letting it sit for an hour and to my surprise, I'm about 10mm low on the dipstick. FAWK!

I bought my car from a Nissan dealership a month ago. Should I contact the Nissan dealer of my original purchase or go straight to Infinity?

Go to Infiniti. The warranty is with Infinity, not Nissan.
