so true

When I bought my car from the previous owner (1st owner), I had to get a warranty transfer request, fill in all the information along with $50 to get the warranty transfered over to my name. This was the elite/extended 100,000 mile warranty, so for the regular 70k warranty I don't know if you have to follow the same procedure or not. Also when got mine transfered they asked for all the maintenance records from the previous owner. They said if i didn't have them they would have to take the car in the shop for about a week and take it apart to make sure everything is ok to transfer it over, if not them I'm screwed.

Best thing I think would be to call a dealership and ask them how they go about transferring warranty. I thought doing all this was a waste of time because everyone told me "the warranty always transfers with the car, not the driver", in this case IDK why they needed all that crap

I'm on my second engine that has about 6k miles on it. And yes it does eat oil. It did start tapping around 1.5k miles until the oil was changed at the dealer. I am assuming they put in thicker oil to quiet it down. I am going in for another oil change and will be watching the dip stick for another chance to win a new engine!!!!
I have heard of people getting 'buy backs' on their cars. Does anybody know what they give in value?

its probably just the way u drive. both my rsx and celica gt-s used oil, i think it was just because they reved high...idk though, my G had bad compression, the rsx and celica both had good compression, not perfect but definatly well within spec

It's not the way the revup VQ's are driven causing the OC........

^On the oem originals yes or more so assumed out of spec from Nissan's chosen supplier (we'll never really know being not public info). Then poor quality/out of spec valve guide seals later discovered as a contributing cause. The TSB replacements apparently have had revisions to both those areas.

Beginning of this thread as well as ones below are full of history on this OC issue:

I got about 7K on my new long block and still having OC, but not as bad as OEM block. Obviously well broken in at this point and up to this point using standard dino oil per Nissan spec. Intilally first 1k a lot of OC , then next 3-5 k got better to within spec, now it's worse again (blah, blah, blah). I just said screw it and switched to synthetic cause that's what I really want to run for obvious reasons. Now I know the OC will be even worse with the synth but I don't care anymore. I always check levels every month, and probably will need to add 1qt every 6-8 weeks, no problem. Yeah it's a PITA , but it is what it is at this point and I'm not going through anymore BS with Nissan. Compression/power is fine and the car is real fun to drive with all the mods and what not. So' I'm going to live with it until trade in/ resale, it's an easily managed problem as long as you check your levels consistently.

Did excessive oil consumption continue on beyond G35?

Hi... I've posted on this thread before... I have an 06 g35 6MT... Currently I have about 37k miles on it... I've never taken mine in for a formal OC test but I do my own, carefully... My engine oil consumption has, to date, stayed below the level needed to qualify for a new engine... Just because the oil consumption deal has caused some measure of stress (I spend too much time watching it) I have given thought to trading the car away before its warranty (at least the power train warranty) is all used up... I like the car a lot, just not the oil consumption... So I've given thought to buying a new one... However, I wouldn't even consider such unless I was convinced the oil consumption issue had been resolved (and yes, I would want another 6MT) on the newer models... So I took a spin over to G37Driver and lo and behold, I still see posts regarding oil consumption... Bummer... But I wanted to ask here to see if you guys concur that there are still issues.. The issues I heard about over there seemed to be happening on cars with say around 40k miles.. But I just want to be done with oil consumption issues, period... Anyone here have knowledge of whether this problem persists on say, 2010 G's (6MT's) or whether Nissan ever really fixed the problem??? Any feedback would be much appreciated... thanks... bob...

but does the problem persist on 2010 models

But note that my real question is about whether the oil consumption problem still exists on the newer G37 models.. From reading the G37Driver forum it would appear that Nissan still has a problem and if so, I won't be buying another one... But I wanted to check here because I think there are some folks here (G35Driver) who are likely real experts on the path of this problem... I am just trying to decide whether to wipe Infiniti off my list or give them another chance on some newer version where perhaps the "oil consumption problem was completely resolved"... So does anyone here know whether the oil consumption problem is gone?? Or does it still occur on newer (2010) G37 6MT's...??? thanks... bob...
