I'll be trolling the 370 forum looking for people who have dropped onto different springs.
I'll buy their "close to new" springs for a discounted price if possible.
That's what I did.
I got mine from a tuner shop that had an early car.

Post #50 for some update pics with 3/8" removed from the rear.

Not bad for a $100 cost

Ian, it looks absolutely fantastic.
Wish I could do that, but heck, I bottomed out so much this winter, and besides I keep telling the other half that her G would look so much better dropped, just a smidgen . But so far All I get is that frown back at me.

How does it drive and handle after the change Ian ?

Any driving impressions with all 4 springs installed Ian?

Oh right, one more thing. Can you do Scott and I a favour? Can u measure the distance from the behind the front wheel well to the ground?

This is the drop that Scott and I are comparing between springs.

For eibachs, we are looking at 3 3/4 to 4 inches in clearance height. We are wondering what the distance will be for the 370z springs.

Thanks.

Gotcha. You sounded too convincing that you had me fooled.

The funny thing is, Scott and I shared the same sentiments... we cant drop.. we cant drop.. and now.. its... lets shop around and see what "drop" we can do. If our minds are changing... its not too far of a stretch to think your mind (and your wifes) might change as well.

Oh I hear you on the last comment very well. It probably wouldn't take a lot to change my mind, and try to sneak it by my other half like Scott does so successfully.

I'm not sure if it's because I'm good at it, or because the wife is absolutely oblivious.

She text messaged me the other day on the way to work. She was 4 cars behind me on the road. She said, "I can hear your car from back here"
The exhaust was the first mod she ever noticed, and that took a week before it clicked... "why does your car sound like that?"

I think I can get away with the drop, assuming I have the money laundered and in cash form for the spring purchase and installation.

Ian, that evened out the gaps very nicely. Before there was a bit of an optical illusion that the rear wheel was smaller than the front! (or could just be the beer)

Wes... do you own a calculator?
If you take my hub to wheel well measurement & then measure yours.
The difference is how much lower your sill will be.

4" for Eibach sounds pretty low.

JIC you don't own a calculator. my sill right behind the wheel well measures 5-3/8"
IDK exactly what part you're measuring though

LOL!

Ya know, Wes and I have X's. Typically, when a dimension for amount of drop is given, it usually doesn't come from an X model.
If a set of Springs drops an S model 1", it may be more like an 1 1/2" to 2" for an X, considering how much higher the X sits.
The only real way for us to know if the drop is right for us is to know what the final clearance is after the springs are installed.

+1 =)

Thanks Scott.

Ian - thanks for the info. I will know for next time how to extrapolate the numbers.

Stock X sits just above 7 inches of clearance behind the front wheel well.

..............
lol.....
What part of the sill are you measuring?
I took the measurement at the edge of the bodywork.

BTW, it shouldn't matter if you have an X or not.
If you take my final hub to wheel well 14-5/8"
Then measure your stock X"
The difference is how much you will drop isn't it?

OK that sounds better compared to my final drop # at the sill.
Those Eibach #s are really low.

Thanks Wayne, I love the transformation.
It was interesting working on the 2nd gen front suspension too.
Compared to my '04, the new one is SO much easier to get the strut out. (and in)

re: driving, I won't really get a good feel until I get the alignment done in a week.
I can definitely feel that it's out of whack a little.

That aside it felt great!
There isn't that much difference in the spring rates that you notice much in overall feel & harshness.
If anything, a little less dive under braking & slightly less roll.
BUT... I haven't really pushed it yet.
I'll know better after alignment & we get warmer temperatures.
...also, I just took off the snows, so it's definitely going to feel different.

With the drop right now I'm still slightly lower in the front than the back.
I'll see if there's any change in the next couple of days. (partial gas tank fill)
& then I might take another small slice off of the rear rubber mount.

The other thing I'll have to do is aim the lights up a little higher,
now that the nose has dropped.
