alright guys, here is a brief first impression of the bully dog. Keep in mind that this is based on local driving and the "butt dyno." Nothing is official. I still only have about 50 miles on the tune so I assume things will change after the ECU adjusts. Please also keep in mind that I chose the PREMIUM tune with STOCK idle, rev limiter, speed limiter and timing.

First off, installation...assuming you have the right version, installation is simple and takes about 30min.

First impressions....Driving in D mode: throttle response is noticeably improved. first gear still has minor lag but it has improved. 2nd, 3rd and 4th also seemed to improve on throttle response. 5th gear felt the same. Shifting: Very smooth but not perfect. i believe there has been an improvement on the upshifts especially. The downshifts seem the same (i thought they were fine in D to begin with). Power: I noticed a bit more pep to the car under normal acceleration and WOT. Much more at WOT. The power also seems to be smoother across the rpm band too. Driving in M mode: Much improved throttle response in 1st, 2nd and 3rd. 4th and 5th feel the same. Still some minor, minor lag in 1st. Shifting: MUCH better upshifts. No jerkiness or delay when shifting 1 to 2, or 2 to 3. Downshifts felt about the same. Power: I noticed more power in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Power held throughout the entire RPM band, especially right until shift which was a big improvement.

Gas mileage: I have only had it for a day so no data. I reset my MPG during the install, and just filled up on my way home from brunch this morning. Ill let you all know my results in a couple days.

overall: For $320 I am very happy with the bully dog and the slight performance increases it brings. If the bully dog helps me get just a couple more MPG, then its worth it to me. Do not expect miracles with this thing but I believe it has probably added some WHP and torque somewhere across the band. You may experience better results if you adjust the timing, idle, rev/speed limiters, but I dont want to mess with that. My last car (02 volvo turbo) was tuned via Upsolute Tuning. I had to take my ecu out of the car and overnight it to a tuner to create a map and solder a chip in. That cost was $425. While I felt a bigger increase in power with the Upsolute tune, it was a bigger pain in the *** to install, did not allow me to adjust the settings myself and was on a TURBO'd car.

any questions, feel free to ask. All of this is very unofficial. I am not an engineer nor an expert when it comes to automotive knowledge. I do however tend to think that I notice every little thing about the cars i drive and can tell when minor things have been adjusted.

 

I'm hoping for a bit more in terms of performance with an intake and my exhaust.

So I have received the Power Pup, the one from Suby01 ( he sold his! Suby thnx 4 a gud trade ) ).
I have tried to install the 1.2.1 version - no luck. Then I asked a few of you guys from here to email me different versions of update ! THANKS TO EVERYONE!!
I have tried 1.2.2B , 1.2.2C and 1.2.2D - didnt help. Still says I have to contact Bullydog for the update. I guess that what I l have to do as soon as they are open... and hope they have a suitable version for by G))

 

They'll have you go through the same steps I doc'd in an earlier post to get your part #. They should be able to then determine if there is an update available for you or if you need to wait like I'm doing now.
Either way, they seem to have pretty good service and will get you taken care of.

 

Yes, I think they are delaying the 1.2.2 (final) release until they get more ECU part #'s updated for ours. (Yes I know it's not specific for our vehicle) but it would make sense as to why they haven't massed released it yet. I give it about another month before they release and we don't have to contact them for an update.

 

Ok so i thought the whole "ECU learning" thing was a bunch of BS but i have defiantely started to notice a signifigant improvement the more i have driven my G with the tune on it. I was somewhat dissapointed with the Bullydog tune at first but now it seems the ECU has woken up. everything feels much more responsive and it pulls harder from a stop and at highway speeds. may just be my butt dyno but it definately feels different than when i first installed it.

 

Any word on MPG improvements yet?

 

When I checked my fuel average log it showed an increase in mileage. Looks to be about 2 mpg more. Now I am just waiting for a dyno tune. The car is in the shop today because it overheated yesterday. Really bad. I was wondering if the BDPP could've caused it but that wasn't the case. It either has to be the thermostat or the fan relay that crapped the bed to cause the engine to overheat and for all of the coolant to run out. I checked and all the hoses were intact. The dealership has the car now, so I am waiting for the results and how much damage may have been done to the engine.

 

i have seen about the same as john. now i may actually be able to get the infiniti advertised 24mpg

Got my tracking number!! Assuming one of the program versions work, I can "dyno" it with my dynolicious app.

Ive done it before and it said I would run a 14.01 with 255whp, whereas my ACTUAL is 13.8-13.9 uknown hp.

So Im gonna give it a whirl and I'll let you guys know.

 

And before anyone tears on him for using the iPhone... that app is the closest thing to a real dyno you're gonna get without actually getting on a dyno.
A lot of people have compared that app to actual dyno results and they've found that it's within 1-2%... very close to the real thing.
Close enough for government work, anyways
