Thanks for the help. But even that I'm still confused and sort of leaves me with my original question about 255/35 vs. 255/40...

245/35(F) 255/35(R) like DjGenuine and SwivelHips are running/will run on?
245/35(F) 255/40(R) like csfender125 and tmounk were contemplating?

Plus a brief explanation of why would be greatly appreciated

On a side note, I'm assuming more contact patch in the front will reduce inherent understeer, but do you guys notice a noticeable decline in mileage w/ wider tires?

255/40 has a larger wall
255/35 has a lower wall.

if you're on stock height or moderate drop, then you'll want a larger wall to help reduce wheel gap. If you're lowered a lot, then you'll want a lower profile to prevent rubbing.

dont get the sedan guys confused with the coupe guys. Some who have posted tire sizes are sedan guys with coupe 19's; so their tire size will be slightly different.

wider tires will have more grip but not by much compared to oem sizes. mpg will stay as current.

Don't forget the brand of the tire makes a difference too. Just like shoes they run small, large, and true.

What do you guys think about:

245/40/19 - front
275/35/19 - back

Will I rub in the back on stock height, no spacers?

I'm assuming you have OEM 19's. People have done 275's before, but I wouldn't risk going that wide on the rears. I doubt you'll rub.

Yes, OEM 19s (rays).

What's the risk in 275s? VDC problems?

its not vdc problems, it's running a too wide of a tire on a narrow wheel. some have it on this site, but I for one will never risk it.

Imagine taking a turn then seeing your tire roll past you..lol thats what could happen.

Anyone stretching their front tires? I'm pretty low on coilovers and stretching would greatly help to reduce my rubbing and let me get closer to spec for camber, so I was wondering what others have done to downsize the tire a tiny bit...

Unfortunately I replaced my rears with 255/40/19 a bit before I got coils so those are a bit larger but I'm not going to replace those when they are brand new.. so I'm just looking to help out in the front.

Question for those with sedans and OEM 19's.

I have an 08 IP sedan that came with 17" and upgraded it to OEM 19" G37S coupe wheels and tires. The standard were 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with P225/55VR17 all-season tires, which I run in the winter here in North Carolina.

Here are the specs for the coupe wheels:
*Fronts are 19x8.5 Offset +43
*Rears are 19x9 Offset +45
with FR 225/45R19 92W; RR 245/40R19 94W, summer tires .

I would like to upgrade the tires to Hankook Ventus V12 EVO K110, fronts 245/35zr19 and rears 275/35zr19. Will these fit with out problems? I had check the sizes with the oem G37s tires and they were very close. The car is not dropped and I have no plans at this time to do a drop.

Thanks for your input, I need tires soon... I like the grip of the Potenza RE050's but hate the noise.

^Those widths should fit fine. Use this link to see if the tire sizes will work:

For those who have gone from OEM 19" tire sizes (225/40 and 245/40) to wider (e.g. 245/35 and 255/40 or 265/35) what has been the penalty in terms of ride quality? Is it noticeable?

Hey I am currently running 235/35/19 on the front and 245/40/19 on the rear. I want to put on 255/40/19 on the rear. You guys think it will be good set up with the front?

What about:

235/40-19 F
255/40-19 F

Tire calculator shows each is 1.2% bigger than OEM sizes, so the total diameter difference front to rear (from OEM sizes) is zero. Should be fine with VDC, right? Will taller sidewalls lead to softer handling?
