i'm on stock OEM 19's original tires potenza re050 140aa- front 225/40 and rear 245/40

My fronts have a ton of life left... can i upgrade the rears to wider 255/40 with no problems? will the 255 rear vs 225 front cause some sort of problem?

And in the same vein, can i upgrade the rears to potenza re050a pole position 255/40 which have a better treadwear of 280aa? or will the tread patterns be too dissimilar?

going 225F and 255r shouldnt cause any slip or vdc issues.
Falkens 452 have 300 treadwear... but either way depending on driving style tires should last the same. overall any good tire brand you choose is not going to cause any issues, different tread pattern or not your okay. Keeping your fronts tread about equal to the rear helps as well.

getting 32k out of your oem's is awesome, so you should be happy about that. kuhmo, falkens, toyos, hancooks, etc are all good brands and have around 300 treadwear.
since your getting new tires make the jump to 245/35F 255/40R

Any problem going higher in profile?

Going from
225/40R19
245/40R19

to
225/45R19
245/45R19

The 19's are very light and the traction is great, but the ride is kinda of hard.

Is this possible? Any problems?

Thanks for your reply I really am lost when it comes to wheels and tires, can you explain why I should change my tire size to the size listed above?

mainly putting more traction down to the ground.

Thanks! I take it the price will go up a bit for a larger tire. Do you suggest buying from internet etc or just at a local shop?

price should be the same or even lower. if you dont have an "hookups" go through http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/home.do (which is americastires but better prices and free shipping) or a local shop through refrence.

After reading this thread I think am going to change sizes to 245/35 and 255/40, however...

As many of us deal with, my fronts and my rears did not wear out at the same time. Due to this problem I replaced my fronts a couple of months ago with stock 225/40 and they have LOTS of wear left, but now its time for the rears.

SO HERE IS THE QUESTION

Can I go with a 255/40 on the rear with the 225/40 on the front (until the fronts wear out in about 12-13k miles) without having VDC issues. I think the height of the 255/40 is close enough to stock, but looking for second opinions.

Thanks

You won't have any issues with that setup. You also might want to check your alignment

I'm in the market for new tires and I'm so glad I found this tread, spent over an hour reading from the 1st post. I was going to go with stock size spec, until I came across this thread, totally forgot about upsizing the tires.

Based on LightsOut and Redlude, the safest upsize is 245/35/19-Front and 255/40/19-Rear. I think I'm going to go that route.

I bought my 07 IP coupe used with 3K miles 1.5 years ago. I've since put a little 40K miles on the original RE050's. It sounds like the Falken 452’s has a higher rated tread life compared to the RE050. I hope that’s true because I could probably run my RE050s for a max life of 50K. I’ve heard the 452 wears out fast, I have a set of 205/40/17 on my 97 accord and they are good tires for the price. I expect to last for at least 30-40K, only had them for a couple months.

I’m a daily driver and I don’t push it to hard on corners, so maybe that’s why the RE050 lasted so long compared to others. 20K mile tire life is way to low for me, I think I’d go crazy if I had to replace my tires every 20-25K miles. Even though the RE050’s lasted pretty well and still have a little life in them, they currently drive like crap; hopefully it’s just the tires and not the shocks, bushings or something else . The RE050’s comfort and performance went downhill at around 10-15K miles. The only positive with the RE050’s is its life.

Can’t wait to get the new tires, I’ve been on the RE050 for too long and it’s been a disappointing 30K mile driving experience. Be sure to post before and after pics.
