Question: Knock off rims vs. name brand?
I am in the market for some new rims. Of course everything I look at and like happnes to be VOLKS, Gram Lights, Iforged etc. All of which are up there in price.
Do you view a G35 with knock off rims or "far cheaper" rims than say VOLKS, the same as you would one with VOLKS?
I am just curious what everyone thinks about this.

I am in the market for some new rims for my G, however everything I look at and like happen to be VOLKS, Gram Lights etc which are up there in $$$.
I was just curious what fellow G owners take on this was, with the following question.
Do you view a G with knock off rims the same as you would if it had VOLKS?
Not even so much knock off's but far less expensive rims.

I've always gone with quality parts in all of my cars..including rims. I've always gone with advans and volks. To me when I see a G with imitation wheels, it just cracks me up just simply b/c the owner was able to spend the money on the car but went to the dollar store to get the wheels. I'd rather stick with the factory wheels than get some cheap wheels out there. If it wsa my car, I would just stick with factory wheels until I saved enough for some decent wheels.
This is only my opinion though. Good luck!

Rota is one brand that comes to mind that copies designs of volks, works etc... these knock offs usually weighs more, doesn't look as good and if you take your car to the track often there could possilbly be safety issues. I have nothing against these rims though, especially if you are getting black ones, it will be hard to tell the difference anyways. at the end it's all about how much you want to spend. hope it helps!

I would rather stick with the factory wheels as well if I couldn't muster paying for a set of great quality aftermarket wheels. The stock 19" wheels are forged Rays Engineering wheels (same company which makes Volks) which are about as good as an OEM wheel gets in quality, lightweight, strength, and looks as you'll come across. Why downgrade?

each to their own
but for things like wheels i'd be a little careful.. you dont want to venture down too far on prices.. or else the next pot hole you hit will be the next rim you buy.. there is a difference in quality
1 piece cast
2. polish
3. chrome
4. painted / cleared
5. powdercoated
6. 2 piece cast?
7. 2, 3 piece forged?
etc..

I used to have knock offs on my G and 99% of people had no idea, not because they were such a close match but because vast majority of people out there have no idea about rims and they just look at overall looks of the car, and i got lots of those.
I justified it in few ways.
1) When the car is rolling u cant see anything anyways.
2) I only park in a parking structure at work or at home...
3) Most people out there have no idea about brands... they just compliment on the overall look of the car.
The only people who will tell the diff are those who are really into this kind of thing, and i havent ran into one yet in the last 2 years. (unless u attend the meets)
Just dont get a complete no-name wheels off ebay. Go with wheels that have been around for a bit.

get lower price rims and invest the money you would have spent on the name brand ones.

Quality vs Unknown..........?
There's nothing I enjoy more than installing a quality set of wheels on my
ride. Wheels that will last as long as I own the car.....on my last car I
almost made it and would have except for two high speed blowouts that
cracked the centers of two of my wheels. They were DP Motorsports wheels
and they lasted 10 years. Important things I look for when buying wheels
are quality finish and weight (lighter the better).
