275's on OEM 19's?

I spent about 45 minutes last night trying to search for the answer i need however i was unsuccessful. Hopefully someone can assist me.

Is it feasible to put 275's on the rear wheels on the OEM 19's? I plan to move the 245 rears up front. How will this affect ride quality, safety, etc? i will be using the same Bridgestone Potenza's that come w/the OEM wheels.

Any help will be appreciated!

i have 275's on my 17in x 8in wide stock wheels. It works fine. I've had it this way for a year now. I'm not a fan of bridgestones though. I'm a Michelin or Goodyear man myself. I have F1 gs's.

I will "fit", but the minimum rim width specified by most tire manufacturers for a 275 tire is 9", with 9.5" being optimal.

So if you mount them on 8" rims, you're at your own risk. (ie, your insurance probably won't cover you, if you get in a tire related accident)

I ran into the same delima when searching for tires myself. From what I understand by the tire being too wide for the rim the center of the tire will wear abnormally. Plus this could effect the overall handling of the car. It stinks that there aren't more tire choices for the 19's compared to allot of other sizes. I ended up just going back to the stock sizes just because of the frustration. Keep in mind most tire retailers have to be VERY careful when saying a particular size will/will not fit because of liability issues.

True, but it doesn't make sense to put larger than recommended size tire on a rim because then the tire company won't be liable if anything and everything were to go wrong with your tires.

-great handling & performance (plus 2 hsde & 10+ auto-crosses)
1st 3 pics are all at the high-speed school "HIGH-SPEED"
4th pic is at a recent auto-cross, 1st time with supercharger installed

Even though what you're doing is wrong. No Tire Manufacturer will stand behind it's products, if it is not used per specification. I'm surprised you even found an installer who would install this, due to the liability issues he would have.

But, you have 17" wheels, and your tire sidewalls are 2" higher than on a 19" wheel. That means, that on a 19" wheel, the tire would have to contort that much more to fit the too narrow rim. Please don't tell this guy it's OK, because it's not. Specific tires are made to fit specific rim widths. I do a lot of modifying and kludging, but I don't mess with tire specifications, my life is worth more than that.

If you want wider tires, spend the bucks and get the proper wheels. It's as simple as that. Yep, I like wide tires too. I'm running Nismo wheels, 245 up front and 275 in the back, but with 8.5" and 9.5" width wheels.

I appreciate everyone's input on this topic. I think i may try finding some bigger wheels in that case. I'm not willing to sacrifice my life to save the bucks. Thanks again guys!

A few things...

1.I NEVER told this guy to do it, I told him what I run & my experiences with it
2.Tire manafacture's will void the warranty the second a street tire hits the drag strip or road race course. Period. They say they are not made for that type of use. How many people use street tires at the races?
3.Did you know doing burnouts will void your tire warranty?
4.Tire compamy liable. ha. pro-rated tire refunds are a joke
5.I like the look of the stock wheels. That's why i'm shilling out $200bucks to have the rears widened to 10in. That way I can fit even bigger tires.

anyway, thats my take...

A whole $200 bucks to have your wheels widened? You'll be adding a lot of weight there. When I thought about doing this to my stock 18s (2+ years ago), the wheel repair place in Tucson laughed at me. I hope you know something they don't. Do you know what your offsets will end up at? Sounds risky to me, but what do I know.

It's a place in Dallas, Texas. Wheels America. It's what they do. Among other wheels repairs & modifications. They have done "thousands" of such modifications, on steel & aluminium wheels. It adds about 3lbs of weight per wheel. Oh, & it's $200 per wheel. Plus shipping. I send 'em out, they send them back in a week or two. A sedan member in here did it a few months back & is happy. He went from 7.5inches to 10inches. Like I said I like the stock look.
Once its all done I'll take pictures & give my report.

As for offsets, I'll need a caculator to figure it out.

Right now I have 25mm H&R spacers on my rear wheels. I measured the clearance of the back of my tires, they're about 3in from any obstructions(suspension stuff)

So I figure 2 inches wider on my rims will still give me enough space underneath.

I love the spacers. They bring the tires out to fill the wheelwells just right. IMO!

When you change the size of tires from the manufacturer's recommendation, my biggest concern would be how it would affect the car's handling. Maintaining peak handling for any car depends upon the proper relationship between a car's suspension setup and the wheel and tire sizes. Porsche, BMW, Audi, Infiniti etc., spend tens of millions of dollars in designing optimum handling setups for their specific cars. So when you make changes to the wheel and or tire sizes for aesthetics, just be aware that you will probably be sacrificing some handling.

k so its best to go w/ original stock size tires.
anyone noticed that 19 OEM tires are bit stretched compare to other cars?
friend of mine recently got E90 and has same tires.
mine looks really stretched compare to mine.
so i was wondered if i can run 235 on front and 255 (increased by 10 on each)
any "possible" combo out there?
