Thumbs up MR V2 testpipe, not as bad as I thought

A lot of folks talked trash about MR test pipe in the past, but I can't justify paying over 300 bucks for just 2 pieces of mandrel bend pipe, so hell with it I gave MR a tried. I'm extremely impressed by the fitments and quality, it comes with new fasteners, gaskets

I bought them from Enjukuracing, at first I thought it was the old version with out the flex pipe as displayed on their website; but when I opened the box, it is the new version with built in flex pipe and o2 extension neck. Some people complaint about the old version cracks over time, and the o2 bung location is at 4 and 8 o'clock position, which is a bad spot for moisture build up. The new version move the bung upward and it has an bung extension, so I don't even need to install the non-fouler to prevent CEL.

The weld looks good, flange shapes perfect, and all the holes are chamfered, I like it.

Only bad thing about the install is, the freaking car is from New Jersey, so most of the exhaust fasteners were rusted, and one of it is so bad, we have to cut it off. I'm sure everyone already know, the trick to loosen the 3 fasteners from the collector flange is by doing it from the top of the engine bay with 2 foot extension, all of them are 14mm, and gear wrench comes in handy in this project.

Old vs. new, I saved over 26lbs.

stock header collector

Driver side installed, it clears the heat shield with no problem

Passenger side

Not bad for 130 bucks. I still have the stock exhaust (Y-pipe, mid pipe, and axle back), and it sounds AWESOME.

well, I haven't taken it to the dyno yet, but according to the Gtech Pro RR, there's about peak 8.5hp gained.
I know the # is way off compared to dynojet, torque and rpm is off too, but its been consistence. Its just a tool you know

baseline

compare to testpipe

I did multiple runs, and I selected only 2 for demostration sake.
All runs are done with about 1/4 tank of gas left, same road, about high 50F temp, and 2nd gear pull.

2 short video clips for you guys

stock

testpipe installed

I have these tests pipes and i love them, great quality and the added flex joints on tp's are an industry first for our cars.

i just bought some testpipes and wondered if the install was pretty easy, well besides cutting off the old bolts?

the pics look pretty nice guns, glad to hear they're working out so far. did you notice if the MR ones are shorter than the stock cats? meaning, did you have to kinda hold the flanges together during install and rely on the bolts to keep it from springing apart? or did they seem like the right length? most testpipes i've seen have been too short.

notice any rasp btw?

huh? you called that rasp? that's the same burble sound from stock, but just more pronounce.

Listen to a F-body Trans-Am or Camaro with SLP loud mouth catback, or 4 cylinders car with way-oversize piping and no resonator; when they rev it up and as the rpm drop, thats rasp.

Sounds good, i'm in the market for test pipes and after hearing the way they sounded on your car and seeing the design i might have to get a set. After all most used TP's cost as much or more than these do new

flex joints allow the pipe to bend so it wont crack...

I installed the Megan V2 TP along with the Motordyne XYZ pipe and no check engine light after over 500 miles. I think they are great for the money, especially when you can get the Cat module for the XYZ pipe!
