NAVBOX TEST RUN COMPLETE
Re: NAVBOX TEST RUN COMPLETE
I am very interested in doing this mod in stages. 1st stage would be to just to keep everything as portable as possible, where stealth isnt a key issue.
Im thinking of un unmodded Xbox sitting on the floor behind a front seat, hooked to a 150watt cigarrette inverter. The video and audio cords can hang unplugged when the xbox is not in the car. Can the SAT button be utilized to change the video input as well as the sound, or is there a simpler way than using the homelink buttons? How hard is doing the RF anyway?
It would be great if everything can be ordered from one place, with instructions for the wire cutting scaredycats.
I just dont know everything I need other than the video adapter, and the PAC audio thing. Does Microsoft make a video cable adapter? I guess the question is how to get the audio and video cables to the xbox? We need a DIY on this.
Thanks
Eric

Re: NAVBOX TEST RUN COMPLETE
the navbox comes with the cable to directly plug into the xbox. Then the box itself has 2 RCA audio outputs and 1 extra video output.
The PAC AAI-NIS has grounded latched outputs. We can use these outputs to trigger the NAVBOX to select the NAV or Xbox. This means that we can use the steering wheel controls to change the video.
Channel 1 = XBOX
Channel 2 = Nav

Re: NAVBOX TEST RUN COMPLETE
How long are the cables that are provided? The RCA cables attach to the PAC that attach to the SAT button right? I guess I still dont understand how the steering wheel would control video, so would selecting SAT using mode on the wheel be the right idea?
Thanks
Thanks
Re: NAVBOX TEST RUN COMPLETE
Damn, that's nice about the PAC audio adapter. How'd you figure that out? What wires do you use? I assume you'd need their steering wheel audio control adapter (SWI-X) then, correct?
Re: NAVBOX TEST RUN COMPLETE
The PAC AANIS allows for 2 RCA inputs. Aux Input 1 is programmed to sat radio channel 1. Aux Input 2 is programmed to sat radio channel 2. So when Sat radio channel 1 is selected, a switched ground output wire from the PAC AANIS will be switched ON, that wire will then connect to the NAVBOX and switch the video to the xbox. When Sat radio channel 2 is selected, the ground output wire from the PAC AANIS will be switch OFF, this will change the video back to NAV. There are two problems with this setup.
Problem:
1. When Sat channel 2 is selected, the audio from the XBOX will also be cut off. To fix this problem, you will need to purchase and RCA splitter so both inputss on the PAC AANIS will be from the XBOX. This way, you can still hear the audio from the XBOX when the NAV screen is on.
2. You will ONLY be able to switch to the XBOX screen when your headunit is set to "SAT". THis means that you will NOT be able to listen to the radio, or listen to a CD when you want to use the xbox. You can get around this problem by wiring in a seperate relay switch.
I am doing research to see if we can use the Yellow/Black SWC output on the PAC AANIS to turn ON/OFF the xbox. I will post when I figure out how to do this. If this is do-able, then we can power on/off the xbox using the steering wheel controls.
BTW: You do not need the SWI-X

Re: NAVBOX TEST RUN COMPLETE
Thank you for clarifying. My parents Sub have xm with xm1 and xm2 channels, so I should have followed. For a low budget I dont think listening to multiple things is a big issue, but I could I use the glovebox switch as the other relay switch? So Ill i need is a PAC AANIS, NAVBOX, and an inverter that I already have? The question now is just how to install.
Re: NAVBOX TEST RUN COMPLETE
Yes, you can use a glovebox switch as the other relay switch. I will be using the wireless doorbell and PAC Trigger Output Module as my secondary switch. ALso, you will need another switch to actually turn on/off the xbox.

Re: NAVBOX TEST RUN COMPLETE
Do it yourself, its pretty simple if you do your research. Study the wiring diagrams for the NAVBOX and AANIS. Its pretty straight forward.

Re: NAVBOX TEST RUN COMPLETE
Hey Benzito,
I'm having a problem with my Homelink working with the DesignTech receiver. Everything's installed, got my relays hooked up. The remote works great - green button powers on/off the Xbox and the yellow button switches between Nav/Xbox. I programmed the Homelink and it seemed to work properly. However neither switch works properly if at all. If the screen is on the Xbox, the Homelink button will switch back to the Nav...but not back to the Xbox. The other Homelink button to power on the Xbox appears to program correctly...but doesn't work at all. Despite all this the remote that came with the DesignTech works perfectly.
Any ideas?

BTW - Just a reminder to everyone hooking up an Xbox to their Nav screen. Make sure you enable Widescreen mode from within the Video Settings of the Microsoft dashboard. Otherwise everything is going to seem stretched out horizontally. It makes a HUGE difference with the apps and games that support widescreen.
Re: NAVBOX TEST RUN COMPLETE
Have you tried reprogramming the homelink, I know they dont program easy , I actually let go of the transmitter button(still holding the homelink button) while programming repressed it then noticed the homelink starting to blink faster and faster , I would give it another try once you program it the homelink will work better than the remote does.
Re: NAVBOX TEST RUN COMPLETE
Tried it a few more times at lunch today, still no dice
The power on/off doesn't work at all. Every once in a while the switch between Nav/Xbox works but seemingly only in one direction. It's really odd. I'm still wondering if there's a wiring problem. But even then that doesn't explain why the remote that came with it works fine.
What wires did you have wired up? There's basically 3 sets of paired wires coming out of the top, and at the bottom there's a single white wire. What do I do with the white wire? The instructions were useless. Even the colored wires didn't match up to the instructions. In order for the yellow button to work I had to hook up the yellow wire to the relay and the orange wire to ground. The 2nd pair was black/grey, the 3rd was green/purple.
Who knows. I'm really happy with the Xbox working out...but this is really disappointing me. Any other ideas? I'll probably have to just find another receiver.
