Compression rod bushings

I had the compression rod bushings replaced on both sides a couple of weeks ago. I could not visibly see any obvious tearing or cracks of the old bushings while the car was on ground but the Infiniti tech told me they were worn/torn while the car was up on the lift during my right wheel bearing replacement job a month ago. I originally had that creaking noise going up driveways and in parking garages. I sprayed high-quality pure silicone lube on the bushings and all the upper link and lower link bushings several months ago and the creaking noises all went away. However, more recently the car was handling poorly at 70+ mph and also at slower speeds. The steering was squirrelly and not tight although no noises. Bad compression rod bushings apparently can affect the caster alignment and cause this affect.
Since the new bushings have been installed the handling is much better and steering feels tighter. The dealer charged about $500 for labor and materials for both bushings.

I had my local and trusted mechanic look at my compression rod bushings before my extended warranty expires next month. Sure enough both bushings are cracked. I'll be off to the dealer next week for both compression rod replacements. Are the dealers replacing the entire rods or just the bushings these days?

had this problem last year. stock bushings were shot. I've replaced my comp rods with aftermarket with sturdier bushings already in place. cost me almost as much as the replacing the bushing as it takes more labor.

Is the jury still out?
Energy Bushings Vs. Whiteline Bushings Vs. Nismo Bushings?
Which ones are the absolute best?

I've read this entired thread and my local mechanic is just waiting for me to order the bushings.

Can you believe my local dealership wanted $1,000 for this repair?

My vehicles in a well kept 2004 G35 coupe with just 50,000 miles. No, not a typo. Fifty thousand miles.

Sose - $1k sounds pretty high - Mine were done under after market warranty for $800 (not my money, the warranty company's money) and I thought that was high. By the way - 50,000 miles is pretty low but I have 12,600 miles on my 2004 G35x. I usually drive another vehicle but I drove it yesterday and I still really like the car.

Wow! And I thought I was doing great on the mileage! Twelve thou miles? Show off!! hehe

Thank goodness the quote was so high! Had it not been that high I wouldn't have researched it. I'm not much of a mechanic (ie. not a mechanic at all).

I just like to:

I had my Energy bushings for few months and i am not really happy with them. The ride is a lot stiffer with stock suspension. I think i will go back to stock soon. If you dont mind the stiff suspension feel these bushings are for you.

Maybe I missed something but what about the SPL Pros are they worth the money and how do they hold up? My mechanic wants me to get mine done on my '03 G35x sedan. I swore if it wasn't OEM or JDM it better be good or it's not going on my ride, but these stock ones appear to be crap. Let me know guys.

It's usually best to stay with OEM.

In ths last few years Nissan has upgraded the quality of there compression rods. If you're replacing them on a first gen coupe/sedan the new OE Comp rods are better than what came on your car. My suspension was making noises and I bought a set of SPLs only to find out that wasn't the problem, it was my lower control arm bushing....Gary

I have an 05 coupe, and recently switched to Whiteline comp bushings. After days of driving, I've noticed that turning at slower speeds (say like parallel parking), I hear some kind of "rubbing" noise coming from under. Due to the harder compound of the new bushing (poly), could this be the culprit? Is there anything I could do to eliminate the noise?

thanks

As originator of this thread, I finally got around to having my girlfriend bring her 06 G35 sedan with the creaky compression rod bushings that devoloped after only 14,000 to the dealer. It currently has 55,000 miles and we have been living with the noise for the last 5 years. The car is covered under the Infiniti Elite extended warranty. The dealership replaced both compression rods with an alignment and the car is now quiet as a church mouse. I will let everyone know how long it will take for the creaking to return.

I recently put my car G35x up on the lift in the garage and noticied my compression rod bushings are torn on both sides with just under 90,000 miles on the car. I am going to replace just the bushings but it should be noted that these ARE the revised rods/bushings that are painted black.
