Compression Rod / bushing replacement part numbers

-
-

I have a clunk in the front end, I am thinking it is the compression rod bushing because this seems to be a very common issue with these cars. Apparently early the 03-06 design was weak and failed easily, since then Nissan/infinity has re designed and improved the compression rod.

I went into my local Nissan dealer here in Toronto Canada and explained the cluck, they said that it was most likely the compression rod. The compression rod part number is 54468-CD00C is retails for $250 cdn here. I asked if I could just replace the bushing and they said no, you need to do the whole rod/arm.

So I did some researched online and found out that some people were able to buy just the bushing from infinity and have the old one pressed out and new one pressed in. Apparently there was a TSB about the compression rod on the G35s and a bunch were being replaced under warranty. Rather than the dealer having to spend $250 to replace the rod because of a worn bushing they started to sell the bushing on its own for $32. This bushing has a part number but doesn’t have a vehicle connected to it, meaning you would not be able to find it under a 350Z or G35 parts list. Under the parts description it only says Bushing, doesn’t say what for. The only way you could find this part is if you already had the part number or if you somehow found it connected to the TSB. Even if you have this part number you wouldn’t be able to find it under the Nissan part list because it is only a Infinity part number. But this is the same part in a 350Z and 2 door G35s.

It looks like Nissan / infiniti was very sneaky about this, they have the part there so it is cheap for them to replace but hind it from us so we have to spend 8 times as much to do the same job. So I just wanted to let you all know this and the part numbers just incase you need to replace the bushing.

Part number # 5457-CD00L compression rod / arm compete unit $250 cnd -- INFINITI G35 2003-2007 ; COUPE and NISSAN 350Z 2003-2008

Part number # 5457-AC70A compression rod / arm bushing $32 cnd -- INFINITI G35 2003-2007 ; COUPE and NISSAN 350Z 2003-2008

My nismo.com also sells this bushing part number 54570-Z33V35 http://www.mynismo.com/products/?id=7780

I hope you guys find this helpful

Yes - there are issues with our compression rod bushings, which can be replaced. Keep in mind that the ball joints on the compression rods can also go bad, resulting in the clunking noise as well. Unfortunately, the ball joints cannot be easily replaced like the bushing, resulting in us having to buy a new compression rod.

I agree for sure...

I would be cheacking the balljoint for play before ordering / replacing just the bushings.

FYI... if you are replacing the bushing might wanto to consider the ES route.

I used the "revised" bushing bespoke above and plan on chaninging them out again in 20-25k miles as a PM with the ES stuff.

My OEM CR bushings actually didn't look bad upon removal. The revised bushing seemed a little less robust, but hey - maybe less is more?

I wouldn't trust just any shop with my G, but I suppose if you don't have a press and you've already taken off the compression rod and you just need to have the brushing pressed out.. you can just do that.

First thing first it is I-N-F-I-N-I-T-I I not Y

Whiteline also sells replacement bushings they sell them as a pair they have hard and soft bushings. They call them radius arm bushings in the UK if your dealing direct with Whiteline I also posted the part number in another thread I am on my phone so I can't get it now but search should find it. If youre going through the work to replace them no point in putting sh1tty OEM ones back in again.

Part number this will be helpful dealing with Whiteline

Yes, that's me, thanks! New shipment on its way - should be here any day. ES really does have a much better solution to the bushing issue. No way, no how would I replace the compression rod bushings with either factory parts or Nismo bushings - they're both rubber. The whitelines are the same basic design concept, but they use polyurethane instead of rubber. The design of these arms requires that there is a lot of deflection in the bushings, and with the factory bushings, the Nismo bushings, and the Whiteline bushings, the only flex built into them is by deflecting the rubber or poly material. This quickly causes the rubber to tear, i.e., the bushings to fail. Jack your car up and look at how much the CR bushing is deflected, and then understand that it's manufactured as a straight piece, and you'll see what I'm talking about. SPL and ES are the only ones that actually allow any differential movement of the bushing parts (by different methods, but both allow movement.) The SPL parts are good, but they're very expensive and it's not yet clear how long they will last on a street car, driven in rain, dust, snow, salt, and mud.
