Block Heater Cord

Some critter(s) got into my engine compartment spring of last year. The heater cord got chewed up pretty good (thankfully it was only the covers on other wire harnesses). I had the car in the Milton dealership last fall and their price was something like $250, I passed.
Lo and behold, it was a cold winter and could have used it quite a few times.
I'm wondering if there is a good shop around Guelph/Kitchener area that does this at a reasonable price. Then again, it just might be a DIY? I've had no luck in looking into this.
Any info appreciated. Thanks.

I can't remember what Infiniti uses for a block heater, but most of them are a standard unit with separate cord.
Have a look at the element & see if it can be detached.
You may be able to get a replacement from crappy tire.

the block heater uses an ordinary power cord....you can install the power cord from your computer and it should work fine

Um, no.

Computer cords use IEC320 connectors. Different from block heater. Block heater cords are designed to operate in higher ambient temperatures found under hood also. Ian nailed it, above.

Of course it can, but unless it's leaking why would you want to?

An in-block (core plug) block heater and cord weighs about as much as an iPhone. If you want to save that weight, go ahead and pay $150+ to have it swapped out.

Bummer, thought it might be an easy way to remove some weight (especially in the front) from this tank. Guess I'll save my money and buy the lighter/better Galaxy SIII

I'll probably just take out the cord next time I'm in the front end. No need for it dangling around doing nothing.
