Re: CG everytime i wash?

ok, just ordered CG. my car is garage kept, has 250 miles on it. i washed it once using zip wax. a combo of wash with some wax in it.

when i get my cg, should i wash first with dish soap as some recommend or just give another washing and then apply.

i have never waxed the car.

Re: CG everytime i wash?

it's a good idea to use Dawn if you want to start fresh and get rid of any old waxes etc.

but nyckid, if you want to build up coats of CG, then you don't want to be using Dawn. otherwise you'd only have 1 coat every time. if that's what you want, then ok do that.

now about layering CG, what's the consensus here about how long to wait between coats? does it make sense to let each layer fully bond (2 - 3 days) between coats?

hrmm why would you wanna have so many coats of wax tho? isnt one enough? usually ppl wax there car once a month or every 2 months, and before they do wax it, they strip the old wax 1st and reapply again right? they dont just apply a new layer of wax over the old layer... or am i wrong?

Re: CG everytime i wash?

fluffydot... the shortest i've waited to layer was about a week between CG coats (1st and 2nd layer only), but that's because i washed the car on weekends. haha and gave my arms time to recuperate from the previous weekend's buffing. ahhh rain-x...

Re: CG everytime i wash?

ok so if i use cg as my main form of wax, and i cg my car once a month, is it still possible for me to use quick detail sprays in between car washes to keep the car shiny and glossy or you guys wouldnt recommend it?

Re: CG everytime i wash?

My guess is this-- for about a week before you're going to wash/CG your car, don't use the detailing spray. That stuff wears off pretty quickly. Wash it thoroughly, and re-CG it. Any residual detailing spray will probably come off with a good wash, anyway. I usually wait a week betweek coats of CG just to make sure. I actually leave a tiiiny bit at the top of my door that's not fully buffed out. When that turns clear, I know it's ready.
