The 110 is used on the M45 and FX45. Bigger motors and bigger filters for them. However, I've used the 110 on the G for years because I think like you do that size does matter lol.

A much better build of this filter than what it was about 2 years ago. Unfortunately they appear to be deceiving people by putting a short media filter inside a larger can.

Here is a Purolator filter that I use on the 2018 Murano and 2014 Versa that we own. It will also fit the M45, G35, G37, 350Z and 370Z + a number of other Nissan vehicles.




The build of the filter is just about the same. Endplate, anti-drainback valve, outer shell and bypass valve are all very similar. You might notice that the number of the pleats in the filter is much higher and tighter. This filter has more of what you want from a filter - filtering media. I paid $14.95 for the Mobil-1 at Advance Auto, the Purolator I had in stock and obtained via Amazon Prime for $4.86 each. I normally order a dozen at a time.




And here's is the proof. As you can see, the Purolator filter media is not only denser it is also taller and matches the taller can, unlike the Mobil-1 filter which is just throwing you a curve ball.

It's also important to compare media types between filters, a better media (mobile 1 extended performance is synthetic blend media) can compensate for fewer sq inches of media but I've always been a purolator fan, more a fan of the ONE filter rather than the base level though. Personally I prefer K&N but I -really- wish they offered a synthetic media option, I understand why they stick with cellulose but not every engine is a race motor...

Is the pleat spacing on the mobile 1 filter as bad as it looks in the picture?

 

I have no way to verify this but looking at the two filter media papers, they really appear to be identical but the Mobil-1 is supposedly a synthetic filter.

And yes the spacing is as bad it looks in the photo. And if you will notice, the bottom of the Mobil-1 filter has a dark area - that is the glue that holds the media to the metal cap. The top cap area is about the same so no oil can get into that media area that is covered in glue. When compared to the Purolator filter that makes it even smaller in height and smaller in media area.

I am not really in favor of synthetic filters, I think some of it is marketing hype but one known fact is that the synthetic filters cannot trap and hold water molecules where as the cellulose filters can. I think that is a big plus.

 

They are calling the M1 filter media a "hybrid synthetic" I have no idea what that really means. Some filters like the high end Purolator uses a fully synthetic media and as far as I know they are basically just rated for more miles and have a larger surface area to trap particulates which corresponds with the higher mileage interval for fully synthetic oils.

 

I use both Purolator red ones and Mobil one filters on the cars and bikes because I can get them for a great price locally when it's time for an oil change. I don't keep vehicles long enough to buy a large amount of filters at once.

Funny story, the M-110 fits both the G and all of my Japanese motorcycle engines, haha.
