FI: we're not in Kansas anymore...
I am not sure why this shop keeps throwing compression numbers out, and considers it as a concern. Also, like Gord said the DE vs. Rev-up thing is completely irrelevant at this point.
The JWT 530 turbos IMO are too small for the VQ, as they will fall out of efficiency range at 7000rpm if you go past 450hp. The 700BB kit with the GT2860RS is much better suited for either a stock block or built one for up to 550hp. So don’t let them convince you to go down to the small GT2554 (530) turbos. I have started working on a “bolt on” TT kit, and I chose to use the GT2871R turbo (even larger than the 700bb) as a base kit.
Also, I am not sure who in the right mind would say that a fuel return system is bad and that the injectors are too big. This is why you tune the car. With a fuel return system you have a much better/consistent fuel pressure. The OEM fuel system uses dampers, and these are basically shock absorbers to keep the fuel pressure constant, but they don’t do their job that well. The fuel pressure does change, and this is a good idea to get a fuel return system. It makes tuning much easier.
Here is what the 530bb twins look like at 450hp, you can see that the last dot is off the grid (past the choke line)...not good.

Now here is a GT2860RS 62 trim (700bb's)

Much better. I did not change any of the parameters between the two graphs, just the turbos.
With regards to waste gates.... was the waste gate open fully at 10psi or at 14psi? If it is a 10psi gate, it should start cracking (opening) at about 6psi and be fully open at 10psi. If you truly have a 14psi gate, I would down grade to a 10psi one. This will allow the tuner to optimze the timing, and run it a bit more efficiently. You can run the 14psi gate and pull timing way back to stay below 450whp, but then your EGT will go up for no reason, and you will not have optimal performance.

Eh guys... thanks again for all the input. Sasha, awesome explanation and Gord, as always your literary grace is always a treat.
I'm going to tell the shop tomorrow to press on with confidence but it sounds like we're going to need to change the waste gates down to a 10psi version. They confirmed the ones they have are 12-14... obviously an upgrade or just the way this kit shipped.
I was wondering about that- because I know 10 was our magic number...
And Gord, thanks for clarifying the whole JWT side of things- I KNOW they produce great kits and I'm not sure that the shop was talking to Jim himself or one of his tech / sales guys. Of course it's better for business to buy the new turbos and other intercooler... And of course he doesn't want blown engines on his name but there can be no doubt that we're going the right direction and to press on. We won't have a blown engine!
Guys over at 350 side had passed on the names of some reputable tuning shops in BC and also in Seattle so if the tuner we're going to fiddle faddles or isn't certain then we're going to go somewhere else for the tune. (right now it's a guy in Vancouver named Marco but I don't know what shop he's with.)
Anyway- thanks again for the attention guys. Never got any photos over the weekend so hopefully tomorrow!

[I]Hi Ian, yes things are progressing with the g......lot more work than i thought,,,,,,couple things we need to chat about, would like to remove the aftermarket ground wires as they are redundant....also, with the turbos, the wastgates that came with the turbos are opening at around 10psi and should open around 7, do you know if these turbos are for the kit or are they ones that will work with the kit, as far as i can see these wastegates will need to be replaced.....
From the email they sent you it looks like they are the same as Dustins 10psi, the 530bb ones are the 7psi ones

Yeah... later on they ended up confirming they start opening at 12 and are open at 14... so I'm not sure where those came from but I think it'd be safe to say we should get those changed out. That's an easy fix.
I'm just in the middle of writing them further instructions and staying the course with the build. So, it's official boys...
We're sticking to it.

Cam at lightspeed innovations for the win.
The shop in Vic didnt have a line on wastegates so I called up the guy I knew would have the answers. Not only did he have answers for me, but also agreed to talk to the shop in Vic and help out where he can. Also, said he had a line on a tuner that he trusted in Victoria!
His gesture is worth at least a quick plug in this thread and once again I'm happier than hell he's stepped up.
For those of you who are perusing the thread and aren't familiar with lightspeed innovations in red deer, google them and take a peek. I had all my bolt on mods and tune done through them and they are awesome! Cam loves the business and is very passionate about the projects. I'm really impressed with him steppin up like that.
Gord, Dustin, and many of the Alberta boys will undoubtedly concur that if you've got some work to do, these are the guys to do it.

Pics!
Not too much to see on these- I thought there were some current ones from today but I see there are a few things they've done I don't see photos of. Intercooler is 80% on and they're just working on that piping. The gauges look fricken awesome, but the cluster is a bit heavy so it'll need to be secured in place somehow- right now it won't stay seated on the A pillar.
Got a good Amsoil product plug in there...
There is some hesitation on the wastegates- that's where Cam comes in I hope!
Here are some photos! I'll post more on Monday.

I have an RB front kit on my car with their street pads and braided lines, rear is stock. There is no comparison from factory to a simple front bbk. And the RB kits are affordable, especially when you find a good used setup.

I'm not going to say no... but I need to do some research. I've had an eye open for something reasonable beyond stock brakes- believe me... and the fronts are a good place to start. Don't know enough to make a decision yet.
I have a few more pics I took today... The intercooler looked like it was 90% plumbed in and the necessary mods to it are done from what I could tell. I'm not sure about what's happening with the wastegates... Cam seems to think it's as easy as adjusting some "crack" thing-a-madgiggy while the shop doing it seems to think that they can be adjusted "up" but not "down." Cam had just spoken with Jim Wolf, so I'm leaning in that direction. They were going to conflab about it between Cam and the shop doing it. If parts need to be ordered then so be it- provided the two agree that's what is necessary. Doesn't sound like it's going to go there so I'm hoping it'll just be a matter of turning a screw or something.
Even Cam audibly winced at the thought of the cobb sustaining this system so as much as I'd hoped that it was going to do the trick I think the simple fact is that Haltech is in my near future. That or something else that someone doing the work is going to recommend. I am sort of leaning towards Haltech because I know it was one of the first systems Sasha was leaning me towards and I know if I'm going to continue to copy everything that Dustin does then I'm going to need to go that route.
The gauge cluster is in and secured... I don't have the photos of the "turned on" cluster but believe me when I say when even the guy doing the work says "these are among the best you can get" then... well... do me a favour and just use your imagination. Even if they suck performance-wise, they look freakin' awesome. Kidding, sort of.
Also, the camber shims are in... so I'll have that "straight" by the time the project is done. Alignment won't happen too long after the kit is complete. At 400 bucks or so per tire those freakin' S drive summer tires are going to last me as long as I can make em. Funny, even now I have the weather to use them. Sorry, had to rub that in. Now then, to find a shop that can do the aligment and not put me on a freakin' ramp.
The fuel lines were run really nicely in an open spot alongside a few other lines. They did a really nice job on those... I'm no expert, I know- but alongside factory lines in the groove open for an additional line seemed like a natural spot. Speaking of natural spots- I guess the install necessitated the removal of my washer fluid tank and it has subsequently been replaced with a PVC pipe about 3" in diameter and with enough room for about "a-liter-a-cola." Anyone remember what movie that was from?
While we were talking they mentioned that they were going to need to weld on the wideband 02 sensors to accommodate the new gauges... which I expected. Don't think that's happened yet. By the sounds of it they're waiting to see how everything fits once the turbos are in place before they go and start going about welding things. Good to hear.
I've got some cash coming that I'm not putting into RRSPs this year... screw it. This year is for fun. Brakes? Okay... let's talk about it! Something better than stock but not EXACTLY what Dustin has... please?

Well it is from Super Troopers, i talked with Cam about your car on Friday and we have a few disagreements on things I will leave it at that.
I would get a Haltech I don't think you would regret it even though there is no reason that a COBB shouldn't work for your goal but as far as engine management, go with what your tuner says.
In the second picture the pipe coming from the IC through the rad support is much different than the G35 one. Mine is straight then makes one turn through the hole, Dustin have pictures of yours or recall if that was a pipe they modified it looks to fit poorly and looks like it hits the crash bar??

its looking good!! but those intercoolers look like very different set-ups from the Z to the G.
i think Gord is right about the cobb... if your FINAL goal is around 400 then the cobb will do just fine. it works just like an uprev except its not live tuning.
