my tuner is a haltech authorized distributor and wants to sell me a unit for $2500 installed and tuned. im sure the deal would be extended to others as well. not a bad deal but you're on the coast and hes in calgary...
as for the old installing the injectors i wouldnt do it my self. i would get the engine management sorted out and tuned then drive a perfectly safe car out the door.

Hmmmm yet another reason why I shouldn't have left. That definitely sounds like the way to go. Makes me wonder if he'd do all that for 2500 what he'd get a unit alone for? I can buy the rig off him and just ship it out to the coast?

Maybe Ian, find a way to contact the guy, and see if you can buy a unit with a basemap applicable to your install. Then at the very least you can drive the car, and your tuner has something to go from.

I've talked to Cam again and he knows some guys at a shop nearby in Vic who also have a deal on the Haltech right now... I'll find out more soon. He suggested that if I were nice to the car and took it easy I could have no problem driving it back here to get it looked at. I think he'd like the piece of mind of going over the install himself or with his crew of guys... which I'm not saying isn't straight off the books. I'd love to bring it to a meet and let Dustin and Gord chip away at it for a few moments as well

VQ... if you want, pm me the contact info for that guy in Calgary- depending on how this deal is in Vic it might still be better to buy here.

Thumbs up

Okay. Well I just had a great chat with Lawrence From Intec racing and I must say he makes a very convincing argument for the uprev route. (Lawrence was recommended by someone on 350z) He admits Cobb is great but uprev gives him more access to those things that he wants to be able to Control when doing the tune. His position was to get into deatchwerks injectors that run at the same impedence as stock- and they have existing base maps for. There are others of course but that's what he recommends.

He stated that with my setup and the fact that I'm AT that uprev was the best option. He added that haltech is a great product but would isolate a lot of the features built into the Infinitis ecu. I wont get into all the details but it was reasonable considering the limitations of my build. Haltech remains the gold standard- but unless I can find a used one (stumbled into another one recently) I am confident that uprev will be the answer to my issues. If I change out the injectors, Cobb remains an option but doesn't give the guys who know tuning the flexibility they want. At this point i want the guys who know the car to have all the flexibility they want!

I think I have a buyer for my Cobb anyway.

So we'll see where It ends up- I know cam was talkin to 5252- the guys he knows- and if we can work something out then well I'll look at it. But I'm impressed with intec racing too- and there are a lot of benefits to going down there to get the work done with the dollar being strong.

I'll buy your access port. Haha.

But really I think the Uprev is a good choice, even if its just something to get the car on its feet. The dollars involved with the Haltech would certainly scare me away, but hell im used to using a power FC with everything. Cheap, works well and an idiot like me can tune it.

Eh Guys.

Well talking to the shop the build is complete. Runs fine, quiet apparently. Some alignment issues from before (they installed my shims) but otherwise not too shabby.

I'm just waiting on photos.

Final decision is to take it to intec racing for some deatchwerks injectors and an uprev tune. Not sure when that's going to happen specifically but hopefully in the next couple weeks. Apparently there's a big 350 / z meet out there at the end of the month. Not sure of I'll make it or not?

I do have those 680 injectors from gord that I don't think I'll be using so they'll be up for sale. I don't want to offend the mods here (cough cough delete this and I'll kick your butt swivel) but so those of you following know you can ask me about them in Im. You probably know more about them than I do!

So the work continues but she's running! Some concern from the shop about the proximity of the turbos to some Hoses but they're all wrapped. They want to keep an eye on them every 3 months or so while the build settles. Seemed reasonable. After all, we're not in Kansas anymore, toto!

Anyway. Pics to follow!

Okay well... having started this thread in December, I am VERY proud to say it has come to its conclusion- well, just about. I picked up the car from Progressive Auto and despite some early concerns they have really stepped up and taken responsibility for the project and the follow up.

The car looks sensational, and with the K2 Bumper really shows off the 350 intercooler. Fit is a bit tight with the grille on the bumper- so thoughts abound about just taking the grille out- it would improve airflow and really show off the fact that the car is undoubtedly a turbo. With that being said, that could attract some unwanted attention too (po po).

The car sounds less raspy now, with that exhaust diverted as it is. It sound closer to stock. Acceleration is deep and throaty- more like it used to be... and I was happy about that.

I'm staying out of boost- clearly indicated by my boost gauge... I'm in vacume now- which I hear is good for business!

The extra weight of the turbos might have tossed out my existing shock tension with the coilovers- so I'm getting a little rubbing right now at my existing height. Figured that might happen- no biggie. The shims are in too but those were a bit of a pain in the *** for them because of the way the gap inherent with the ABS sensor and traction sensor was so sensitive. Fortunately, however, that problem was identified in the instructions and they were able to solve that pretty efficiently. Now at least I can adjust camber with the included camber adjustments available. Clearance has become the biggest issue- but it looks so sick now that I'm hesitant to screw with it.

I'm heading down to Seattle tomorrow to get the new injectors put in and to get the Osiris Tune from Lawrence at Intec Racing... at which point I'll be able to put my toe into it. Troy from Progressive told me that the trip to Seattle is a nice shake out and he wants to see the car back on Monday to check for settling of components and double check for leaks and clearance. Seemed reasonable to me- despite the fact that he again encouraged me to take it relatively easy. I felt like it was good sign of faith that the shop wanted to keep on top of emerging issues even when the bill was paid. It IS a tight fit- anyone will tell you that...

I'm posting some early pictures, just because this is as close as I have come to a newborn... so I know maybe its old news to some of you... this is pretty exciting.
