I trust you are going to have them take many photos? They may come in handy later on! I've been reading about these with great interest.

I will try to take photos before the new bumper goes on. I have given them the liberty of deciding whether to notch the bumper support or fab up something else for front end rigidity. I'm going to end up sacrificing the strength of that crash bar anyway, so...

Okay... progress report and a question!

Block is at Intec, the tranny has arrived and apparently looks sharp though most of the modification to that is internal. Block looked really good but the machine shop was taking its time doing the bearings so Intec picked everything up and installed them on their own. Intec reports the crank movement is really smooth so everything from this point should be the same! Apparently 3 pistons are in and the others should be in shortly. I guess one of the oil squirters was damaged so they had to get another set and installed those yesterday or the day before. The remaining pistons should be in VERY soon and the head gasket and ARP head studs are there and ready to be installed.

The manifolds are being coated as per Gord's suggestion and should be back any time at which point everything will be ready to finish up. The boost controller, HPX MAF, radiator, hoses, slim fans... Everything is sitting there, just waiting for installation. There's some hesitation on the HFC issue and whether or not the original buyer is going to come through but there's another guy in mind as well who is interested. We'll see.

Question: Functional location for the Apexi AVC-R boost controller. Any thoughts on a solid location for it? Where did you install yours?

have you considered test pipes instead of HFC?

Yeah... they had something set up with one of their local guys who had some TP for sale. I guess the guy they had lined up for the HFCs hasn't come in with the cash yet so they were going to talk about passing them off to someone else.

I'm a LITTLE hesitant about the emissions / fumes / stink and someone was talking about 100 cell mil.spec HFCs... I might think about that route at some point but we'll see what happens first.

There's a good chance it's the same guy... if Intec already knows about him and he goes through them then it very well may be. I'm PRETTY sure they have already bought the pipes we were going to use but to be honest I haven't really been too involved in that transaction. If it were HFCs I was buying I might want a little more input but as it is with test pipes I'm not too concerned. With that being said- if you're around Intec at all and get a chance to talk to them maybe let them know about your buddy. If things fall through on my TP / HFC then maybe we can work something out instead?

In the cup holder, or cut and flush mount it where the ash try is, in the cubby hole below the clock or in the compartment above the glove box.

Thanks Gord... All of those sound like reasonable answers! I figured the spot under the clock might be a quaint little spot... I don't put anything in there anyway. And, like you said (I think in 350z) it's nice to tuck it away out of site. I'm not exactly a sleeper with the gauge cluster on my A pillar but I don't need to look like a NASA control room either.

I have mine mounted in the drop down sunglass holder, never actually use it except when I'm curious how much boost I'm hitting. Once you have a spot-on tune you honestly won't need to mess with it, so having it tucked away out of sight is perfectly fine. Any of the cubbys would be fine IMO, be it the NAV, sunglass, center console, etc. Only problem is when you get into custom mounting with it moulded into stuff it gets very time consuming and expensive... I originally wanted mine mounted on a swivel behind the ashtray, but once I started looking into it I opted for the easier option

i had my wideband in the sunglasses holder then i realized i couldnt see out the rearview mirror. but a boost controler you wouldnt need to see until you were going to adjust it....usually at a stop light after you got your azz handed to you

A couple of pics. Timing cover and the plenum... now then- about those CF 350 engine covers...

I think we decided on the area under the clock for the boost controller given that I don't have nav and it's relatively discreet.

Getting close I think. I'm back on the coast in two weeks and I'm going to wager that's going to be the big weekend.
