Congrats! I call BS though. In this country, we have snow on the ground till at least June.

Enjoy the drive to Seattle. Should be an easy drive to stay out of boost.

I hate to be "that" guy, but I am curious to know what the total investment here is... I've heard rumors that certain people on this board *cough* have more than 30k into their engines, and I'm curious to know if that's what it costs to get into the big hp club.

Anyways congrats on getting it done, hopefully it proves to be a trouble free set up for you.

Well we were doing really well with the tune- effortlessly tamped up to 381s in the initial stages in early 6k rpm- the transmission wasn't engaging enough so he powered down to do some adjustments and get it to engage more through his software.

I turned away from it long enough to sit on a couch, having just finished joking with a guy about how being in there watching was like watching a child play contact sports for the first time when it went quiet. I saw the tech and the tuner going over the engine bay with flashlights.

Uh oh.

Lots of really good things happened today- I'll expand on them later. At 11pm it was decided to go at it tomorrow morning again with fresh heads. We're not sure what happened- but hp and torque dropped off while a/f stayed level.

I am completely confident in the shop and the guys- but this is one of those fi realities.

So- I'll expand more tomorrow. And tomorrow. And tomorrow.

Uh-oh loss in power is never a good thing, I won't tell you what happened when I lost power on the dyno

Andrew I can't say for sure what Ian has into this set up, my initial set up cost close to $15,000 for the everything out the door drop my car off and pick it up 2 weeks later. I think Dustin spent more to get the 350 Z kit modded for the G and bigger turbos, bigger fuel pump, bigger injectors. That was also 4 years ago when the dollar sucked I think the kit itself was $7,000.

I would guess Ian, even starting with a used kit is into it close to $10-13,000 with the tranny upgrade and a few other upgrades he made.

Bang for the buck Boosted Performance kit would be much cheaper and make the same power levels on a stock block and it can be installed on Jack stands in you garage over a weekend. You would have to ask Sasha but it would be much cheaper.

Ian I hope everything is ok!!

People often underestimate what it takes to get a car boosted, so here is a quick run down of what my kit would run:

Tuner kit with injectors and fuel support (good for 550whp): $5000
Engine management: $700 -$2500 you decide
Clutch flywheel: $1000 (because you don't boost an auto..)
Gages/wideband: $400

Total: $7100

If you want to install it yourself, great, you save some money and that is your price if not:

Clutch/flywheel install: $750
Turbo kit install: $900
Gages/wiring...ect install: $300
Tuning $800

Install/tuning total: $2750

Grand total for a boosted car: $9850

Heck, make it $10,000.

Okay. Well built motor it is. The suspicion is a bent rod- the shop has put their heads together with pro tuners all over the us and there is some concern about 10psi wastegates on the stock block and at combo. They explained that the at puts more strain on the engine which might be why it was okay for the mt guys but not quite enough for the at. So, it's staying at intec to get the work done. I'm getting the tranny done too now. I think it's going to IPT to get the clutchpacks upgraded. Now is the time to just do it. After that- well- I'll be in my big boy pants for real.

And I don't even want to look at what I've spent. Gords on the right track though.

In this case intec is working with me to help get the job done but will work with me in terms of the labour costs. Their reputation and pride in the job is very important and they've made a commitment to help get it done.

They were Kind enough to help get me to a hotel last night, offered to get me to the airport- I can't say enough about those guys.

Anyway- so I am Carless again

I thought the thread was wrapping up- but in fact it's only just begun!!

Sounds like somebody fubard up big time. There is no way a rod should bend at that power level that quick..it's just not going to happen. This to me smells like a horrible tune in the timing tables. I would love to see what the timing was when this happened. Look at how much tq Gord ran on his stock rods for an entire summer. The transmission has nothing to do with strain, it is just an excuse. What EMS did you end up going with?

I have over 40 passes at the drag strip on a stock block, and that is harder on everything than any street driving you can do. Dustin has been beating on his stock block for a few years now as well, and it's still going strong.
