Thumbs up

Wow-I live in ATL and been thinking about this SC for the longest time. One day if u got time I would love to see ur setup
^ Absolutely. I'll private IM you my cell phone. When you call, let me know who you are and refer to this post and I'll know exactly what you are talking about. I get a lot of calls - so I can get confused, lol.

We can meet up sometime if you want! It would be nice to meet a fellow member. I don't get out nearly as often (to group meets) that I would like to!!

This stillen post is still alive? (well 2 months since last post now).

Anyway. Hoping someone can chime in here on the heat properties of the stillen. Does anyone have any logged info or a link to what kind of heat the M62 produces?

Id love to see what it is in the manifold at around 7lbs of boost.

Also, what the actual number is for hp drag on the engine. From what ive been able to come up with is that its somewhere in the 20 hp range at that 7lb level.

What makes the stillen stage 3 into a stage 4 exactly? Just a pulley and tune?

With an obvious overtone of sarcasm - because I'm guessing you were being just that to a degree ;D
------------
I posit the following:

We all know for the price the Stillen Kit doesn't give the gains of the Vortek or a decent and up Turbo system (although it's Torque gains for use sliding around town are top shelf)...

But "****"? Really....?

Shouldn't "****" be reserved for systems that are blatantly horrible in every way, including often breaking catastrophically or doing harm to the host engine. Or for things like those silly **** inline fans on the intake that are supposed to give you HP gains (LAWL!)

This is not the case with the Stillen kit at all. It's a VERY well made system, solid and long lasting, cant really damage the engine and runs forever with very little maintenance at all.

Just because it doesn't have the same output to dollar value hardly makes it "****".

This does raise a very interesting question though (at least in my mind). What dollar amount on a full Stillen Supercharger kit for the G35 would make it move from "****" to (at the very least) "Good" in most of our eyes I wonder?

$3000 instead of $5500?

$2500 instead of $5500?

Less?

Yeah - after getting the kit and daily driving the car after - gosh has it been like 4 years now? Jeeze time flies - I would have to agree that it's a WELL built kit, will little to no maintenance - although my belts (all of them need to be replaced and for just THREE Stillen belts it's like: $97!!) But then again, that's after FOUR years of wear and tear - so I'm shocked they've (belts) have lasted this long.

Anyways - it does give "good" Torque gains and I do ABSOLUTELY LOVE and ADORE the "INSTANT" power compared to my BMW 335i that has a turbo (lag anyone!?). It's that "hit the pedal and the power is instantly there" that has kept this kit on my car for this long. If the power addition was even slightly worse than it already is for the $$$ - I would have stripped it off quickly years ago. BUT...in saying that - driving this car - it "feels" like it has more power than the Dyno states and I've heard many others say that as well - even those that have twin turbo setups that have jumped into a friends Stillen Supercharged G.

I would say going back in time - I would have been much happier paying say $1,500 - $1,800 for the kit. Looking back I "CRINGE" thinking I dropped almost 5k on this thing...but oh well - still going strong and enjoying it atleast....

Thanks Guys!

Stillen kits go for around $2000. One went not long ago for $1800. Now thats roughly the cost of a full exhaust and cai. It will get you 10 times the power and fun for the same price. Pending you can install it but its a very simple install.

Plus you get that awesome sound out of it!

There is a night and day difference from na and a stillen kit. The car is a whole new machine.

If you put an exhaust and cai on you would drive it and be like " I think I can feel the extra power! I should dyno it to see"....

Oh the sound.... How I've truly fallen in love with that sound.

For me - I bounce back and forth between my SC'd G35 coupe and a Lexus SC400 - and it's a treat to get into and drive the G every time.... It's also an impressive sight to see when you open the hood. This said, it's a sort of artificial boost I give myself when moving from the SC400 to the G that helps my *perception* of how powerful the G feels each time I think. But hey, I'll take it. I'm sure if I owned a Zonda S I'd only take the time to walk out the front door to pee on my G35. But in my case I'm able to work it the other way LOL

Unlike Wheat - I got smack lucky and was able to get my G fully kitted out (CAI, DC Sports headers, which apparently we're not a good thing with a SC installed for complex and often debated reasons, Coilovers, Volk Racing wheels on Bridgestone and Goodyear rubber, and the SuperCharger) for a steal of a price. This is sort of why I asked what a really reliable, solid kit would be worth at a maximum to people since I didn't have to pay outright for mine.

It's interesting to find that it's perceived worth is only equal to the cost of an Exhaust and a CAI... a tailpipe and suckpipe... Don't you think? I wonder why that is? I guess Turbo's are glamorous and Superchargers are not now.

What does the Vortek SC kit cost new? I know many old Stillen users have gone over to that setup... man I'd love to drive a G35 coupe fitted with one of those for comparison

I had the stillen. Then I test drove a Vortech with a claimed 420whp. I was not impressed. So i bought a Turbo and put that on with my stillen still on. That was WAY better. But now im getting power hungry. So im taking the stillen off as it creates parasitic drag on the internals so id rather have that power usable.

I now have just the powerlab kit running it with E85.

Next step is the 370Z with BP kit and 550whp.

Anyone know of alternatives to Stillen's double-pulley tensioner circled in the pic below? Or do I have to go thru Stillen? Takes a week to get a response out of them .

Was letting my daughter's boyfriend get some wrenching time with me on the G and we didn't get the bolt torqued correctly is my guess and I lost the tensioner around a highway exit along with the front dust cover and the nut. I guess maybe that means I have no choice but to get them from Stillen, but I'd rather buy locally if someone can tell me if they're readily available parts.

Thanks in advance....

-Patrick

Patrick - I went hunting for a replacement to that exact pulley as well about a year ago, but got nowhere even when working with a bearing manufacturer (I just wanted to swap out my bearings). This said - I have one of these in my garage with a bad bearing in it. It's the whole get up - the pulley, the caps & spacer and back adjustment threaded shaft part (that the bearing also sits on the perpendicular shaft that extended from the threaded one). No Top nut though (the one you can see in your picture that holds the pulley - but that is easy to get at any home depot.

If you'd like to try your luck at sourcing the bearing (and pressing out / in the replacement - it's an "NTN 6301LR" made in japan. Whatever Stillen charges for the replacement pulley and associated parts now (it comes as a little kit) - you can have mine for half their cost. I'm not using it - I declared defeat and bought a new batch of parts from Stillen myself so these are my old parts. I've got a bunch of pics if you want them.

But I have to say this, in all honesty unless you're hurting for cash - just buy a new batch of parts from Stillen. I did LOL

Then again - maybe you have the link for bearings that I could not find - in which case - by all means I'll sell you mine
