Well I have read threw most of this thread and cannot read any more as my eyes hurt. I am looking at purchasing a G35 (retiring my CLK430) but I want a 6 speed or I would just keep my Benz. So What I have gathered is that this problem only persists on the
G35 2005-2006 Rev up engines?

Does this mean I should be safe buying a 2003-2004 model with the 6 speed?

I have a 2005 with 61k on it and have had no issues! I wouldn't say it is really common but it is a good possibility that 2005-2006 could have issues

I would think that all the 05-06 motors that had problems would have been replaced by now. The replacement motors didn't show the same problem did they?
My 06 nonrevup motor uses a quart every 5k to 8k miles. On the other hand, my wife's 05 3.5L Maxima engine doesn't use a drop.

Buying a 03-04 won't be any safer than a 05-07 G with a VQ35. It really depends on how well the previous owner took care of it. This "problem" is easily taken care of by simply checking your oil level.

It's not the motors fault it burns oil ._.

This is as old as my exs BS, first all oils are not the same. I have been doing oil related problems for 30 years, the driving style, type of motor and brand make all the difference, no two people drive the same and no two types of oil are designed the same. I use Royal purple and Lucas oil stabilizer in all my cars and the level never changes! The other thing is that you must check the oil in an infiniti at rest two minutes after shutting the motor off. If you do not do it this way you will not get an accurate reading. One clown challenged my knowledge on this and all I can say is all manufactures want you to do it THEIR WAY PERIOD. If you don't then your hurting your chances for the longevity of your motor. they would not waste their time making the instructions how to check the oil correctly if it was not as important as it is.

Stay away from the G35. It doesn't matter if it has the VQ35DE or VQ35DE Rev-Up engine. They are all crap. I bought a brand new 2007 G35 with 8 miles on the clock. I broke the engine in just as the manual stated. It burned oil the whole time I had it. I sold it with 5,000 miles on the clock. It took me 1 1/2 years to sell it. I never drove it from the time I started the selling process.
I took an $8,000 dollar loss when I sold it.
Royal purple, Amsoil, lucas, Mobile 1.
It doesn't matter what oil you use, the G35 will eat it up and spit it out like Aunt Betty's fruit cake at Christmas.

Move on brother, just move on. You WILL become another victim if you purchase a G35.

Your eyes are burning from reading this thread? They should be.
It's a huge a$$ thread about a piece of crap that Nissan sold to
the American consumer. Then Nissan spit in our face by denying and lying about the problem as they laughed all the way to the bank.
Nissan waited 3 years before they relased a TSB on the oil burning issue.
Nissan was trying to get past the warranty period before releasing the TSB on the G35 and the 350z.

Look for something else.

One more thing.

SCREW YOU NISSAN!!!!!!!

All this info makes my head hurt. Ignorance is supposed to be bliss!! lol.

I mentioned the oil consumption issue to the service advisor and in his words, "there's a lot more speculation about this issue than is actually happening." Right. Well, I had him set it up anyway as this was my first oil change @ the dealer since I got the car less than a week ago. Btw, I went in with 65100miles. Here's where it gets interesting.

I spent hours reading up today and how the dealership might try to weasel itself out of getting customers a new engine. That pretty much put me on heightened alert after the fact. I take a look at the service sheet and the tech had written my mileage as 1000 more than it actually was, in essence, 66100. I noticed it yesterday but didn't think too much of it. Well as soon as I saw this and confirmed it, I called the service advisor and told him. He said he would make a note of it and apologized for the error. I will call again tomorrow and speak with a second advisor and confirm that the note was made. In addition, I took a picture of my mileage with Exif data embedded. Hopefully that can stand up to repudiation if it ever went to court. Yes, it could be an honest mistake but...when you think about it, if I had to wait for 3 1000 mile cycles, I most likely wouldn't make it within the powertrain warranty.

For the record, I haven't noticed any consumption because I haven't checked the oil levels yet, there is no record of any engine issues in the past, and it has not got a new engine. All-in-all, it *seems* to be a solid vehicle...but who really knows?

Btw, anyone want my 6mt? I'd really prefer to have an 06 5AT as I'm not much of a manual transmission guy anymore....what with kids, me getting older.... not to mention my wife could actually drive the car, and frankly I suck at driving an MT smoothly.

I agree with most of what you say, except the fact that royal purple is garbage. absolute garbage. I will never run that crap in my car again. I always used mobil or pen. but a while back i thought i'd try royal purple, my car never burned a drop of oil, after 3k miles of royale purple, my car burned a quart. I changed oil again and went back to mobil, every 3k oil change interval my car was down one full quart. everytime. before royal purple, car was perfect. After, burns oil. That stuff is total garbage.

You sir, are simply unintelligent.

Maybe you don't know what oil does? Heres a refresher.

Oil cleans your engine. Each oil has different detergents in it and each oil cleans different parts of your engine. If you run lets say "mobil" for 60,000 miles...the detergents in it clean certain parts of your engine. Your rings seal in nice and tight, and you don't burn a drop.

Your next oil change at 63,000 miles you decide to switch to royal purple. Royal purple has its own detergents and cleans/breaks down different things in the engine than mobil 1 does. Now your rings are not sealing properly. Your rings are attempting to re-seal with your new type of oil, and many times they simply cannot re-seal fully.

Now your car burns a quart or so every oil change.

It happens.

Royal Purple is an outstanding oil, and if you used it from day 1 you would have loved it.

unintelligent.... haha okay, lets throw in random useless insults to a person who is expressing their experiences and thoughts on a FORUM, which purpose is to express things as such. anyway... I never has issues switching from one oil to the other, in fact most oils for the most part dont matter as long as you stay in your oil change interval. There is no reason for royal purple to cause my car to comsume oil unless its garbage, which it is. Independent test have always concluded that royal purple cannot match what it claims. It made my car burn oil, no other oil has done that. Royal purple, garbage. My opinion obviously, perhaps wrong, but my opinion none the less which is based off my experiences. You keep using royal purple if it makes you happy, and i won't.

I would welcome that test, if it says something bad about RP then I want to know. The tests I have all said it was better, they were not done by RP.
