^Technically, it would be ideal, but not a requirement. I can check the dipstick on my Grand Am immediately after turning the engine off and it reads accurately. Obviously our cars our not the same way.

Never read or heard anything about cars having time settings for checking oil. I dont think Ive ever heard of anyone waiting an exact amount of time to check their oil. Park the car in the garage and come back in a half hour or so and check it.

But can't you like leak some oil before you go back. So when the measure it, it is at low? Hence fail the test?

^The dealership has a way to counter that, I can't remember what it is but I think they tape the dipstick and mark the drain plug, or something like that.

Is that for every dealership? I live in Vancouver, B.C

If they do have a way to counter that, I will get my buddies working at Nissan to help me out haha. They will know what to do.

Thanx G35driver net nanny with a whopping 70 posts... Ill just hide my tail between my legs and run off now...

Alone? I dont recall anyone agreeing with you about a set time limit to check your oil.....

Anyways Im going back in 600 miles for my 2nd check. I was 1mm away from failing so hopefully this time it fails. The thing I found weird was when they changed the oil and reported to me, they said it was 2mm below full. So instead of having to be the 8mm low it had to be 10mm low in my case. Sounds like a little scam to me, trying to cheat where the oil level is. Why not just top it off to full?

Just drain a litre before you go back.

Both of you there is no reason to get worked up over any of this. Take it to the PM's if you want to aruge, last time I checked this forum is for G35 drivers to share knowledge. Back to the topic of OC..

If the dealer really overfills the crankcase, I would call them on it before you leave. Check the oil in the parking lot. if it shows overfull ask before you leave. Also I would think driving your car hard during the test would be beneficial

Haha, Well I am not going to lecture you on ethics. I would advise if you do this to leave it exactly how they left it. i.e. Make sure if they left the pan spotless you do the same..

Do you know if your car will fail the test without draining?

Does anyone know if this is a common problem for the 03 5AT sedan? Recently I've been hearing some knocking sounds coming from my engine bay during cold morning starts (-15C over here). Last oil change was in August btw.

Sorry if this has already been asked. I tried reading this entire thread but there's just too many pages to go through.
