:lol Changing oil every 3000 miles is schedule I like to stick too, with every car I have driven. I have driven cars with mileage up to 400,000 miles with the original engine. Seems to work OK for me. As long as you have oil between the H and L if not a little more...you should be OK. And If the oil is still clean you can still go a little more.Originally Posted by Texasscout
That's OK. If you want to do a proper test, fill it to the "full" line (top of crosshatch area) and set your odometer to zero. Check it every 100 miles for a bit until you are satisfied that consumption is within spec. To me a quart within 5000 miles is acceptable. A Quart in 3000 miles is cause for worry. Like I said, mine has 102,000 miles and I use about a 1/2 to 3/4 quart in 7500 miles.
Just a warning though, California is trying to change the 3000 mile oil change habit...watch out

Plus you don't want to over fill your car with oil either. That would give you problems of a different sort too. I tend to baby the cars I drive.....:lol

Hello, I live in South Florida and I am looking to buy a 2003 Infiniti G35 coupe black, automatic premium package he is the second owner it has 63k miles black rims blacked out taillights and touch screen dash. He has all maintaence records and has no problems he says, only selling to buy the G37. He is asking $12k but I told him $11k cash and he will take it. Sound like a good deal? If taken care of properly this car should run for a while right? Over 140k miles? Thanks!Originally Posted by dec55

Sounds like a good deal, 63k is pretty good for a car that is almost 10 years old. But with any used car, you have to look at it with a fine tooth comb. If the car is well taken care of with no rust of major oil issues, you may have a good buy. And if you are a maintenance kind of person with cars and really take care of it yeah , 140K with no major problems sounds about right to me. Originally Posted by chris1099

I would also look at the belts, radiator, lights, brakes and transmission fluid, and see what kind of condition they are in. And ask him if all the motors in the windows are still running smoothly...that could be a issue too. Also check the AC...to see how it was serviced.
Tire condition and sensor is a good thing to look at too.
:lol I tend to look at everything I can think of....good luck. (If you have a previous owner friend who knows about G35's to look over the car, bring them too and get their advice)

I had a very similar similar problem with my 06G MT6 coupe. Bought the car at 86k from a Nissan dealership up here in montreal, canada. At 89k I realized the engine was ticking for some reason. I had a glance on that stupid dip stick and it pratically had no oil on it. I brought it to the dealer and said look there's a problem... The car is taking more oil than it should. So they had me do an oil consuption test. They started off with a fresh oil change. Moblie 1 full synthetic oil and every 3k I had to go back and have them measure the usage for 5 visits. Everytime I went back they always add 3/4 of a liter which they said is normal??? Long story short before my last oil cunsuption visit I decided to drive down to flordia for a vacation. Half way there I decided to take a glance at the oil level and it was under the low maker!!!! So like anyone in this sane world would do I added 2L of oil. As I came back and went for my last oil consuption visit. The level on the dip stick was almost full with 6k in traveling distance. I told the sales rep that I had to add oil on the road because it was really low and I was on the verge of burning my engine and he's like well that's too bad. He explained that I tweeked with the oil consuption test. The test is now void. Enjoy your day. I went ape s*#t on the guy was about to put his head through the pc. Dealer thinks I'm gonna drive my car dry and be standed on the side of the road just because these guys are monitoring my oil record! Give me a brake! Update till now, give my engine a new oil change every 3,500k on Amsoil full sythentic. Costs a sac load of $ but doesn't take a drop of oil anymore!

I have the same issue. If the conclusion was oil consumption issue with your miles what will they do. Is there a warranty for this problem

Unfortunately at 80k chances of a warranty block are not good. 1 qt per 3000mi is not much and actually wouldn't qualify for warranty. I think it has to be more than 1qt per 1000 mi.

Just got my short block replaced in DEC/2011.
Was burning 2+ QT every 1K miles.
My extended warranty ends in August.
You guys think it's worth it renewing the extended warranty in August?

I wanted to reply to the post regarding the manufactures position on oil consumption. It is an issue that Nissan/Infiniti is aware of and will to address so long as certain criteria are satisfied.
A)The only vehicles affected are 2006 and before, G-35 MANUAL transmission sedans and coupes.
B) Service history is required for the duration of ownership, though it is NOT required to have been serviced by Infiniti or Nissan. However oil change records are required if the vehicle was not serviced by Infiniti. The minimum service history (service intervals) requirements is proof of 1 oil change every 7,500 miles.
C) Specific oil consumption proof is required. If the vehicle is not serviced on a regular basis by Infiniti, you will be asked to bring the vehicle in for a consumption test that may require 3 visits at 1,000 mile intervals where in the oil consumption is tracked. There is NO charge for this evaluation and NO requirements to perform an oil change while the vehicle is at the dealership.
D) The vehicle must be in power train warranty (72 months from in-service-date OR less than 70,000 miles.) OR have an Infiniti extended warranty which may provide coverage beyond the 72 month/70,000 mile range.
The criteria set forth is strict and defined in detail by the manufacture. All criteria must be satisfied to warrant a repair. But most important is to understand that ALL Infiniti’s will use some oil between oil change cycles and is considered normal. Let me say that again. They all use some oil between oil change cycles. Simply checking your dip stick and noticing that it’s less than “full” does not suggest that you will need or get a new engine in your car. Again, certain criteria have to be met before the brand will take action.
But to suggest that Infiniti/Nissan is ignoring it’s customers concerns is simply not true. As someone that works for Infiniti within the service department, I have found that the manufacture goes out of their way to make sure that our customers are happy. I know for a fact that there are many people whom post on this forum that I have personally helped navigate through the oil consumption process successfully.
If you have any questions of believe your vehicle may be consuming too much oil, then contact your local Infiniti service department to schedule an inspection and evaluation. (Note: Nissan dealerships can not perform warranty repairs on Infiniti’s.) Your Infiniti service advisor can explain to you in detail what is involved and how the process will unfold.
I hope this shines some light on a dark/murky topic….

Thanks for that info, however you didn't define what the break over oil consumption level is. 1 qt/1000miles? or what?
