Dude your oil is EMPTY. You probably need at least 2-3 quarts added.

 

I would think you would be good, how many miles since you bought it? You should add a quart if it gets to the bottom of the crosshatched area.

 

But some portion of oil traces is found till half cross hatched area. the thick part is at bottom. can i add it from top? Or do i have to do some other procedure for adding oil?

Its like 1100 miles since i bought it. i guess i will get it changed on monday instead of doing it next saturday.

i checked again today morning and oil was a little less than half of cross hatched area. So i got a 1qt of castrol 5w30 and added just to be on safer side. I will be going to get oil changed early next week.

It appears that this issue has just gotten to my car. Driving home last night I saw the oil pressure light blink when I slammed on the brakes. Car had made some weird noises starting up the past few days but I thought it was belt related since they need to be changed.

Checked my oil this morning and it doesn't even register on the dip stick, WTF.

I'm at 90,000 miles, is it really possible this is just appearing now? Or is it just not noticed previously because I was changing my oil frequent enough to never have burned it all off?

Sitting at home, waiting for a tow truck at this moment.

Do the '07+ G35's have this issue?

 

How long did you go between changes in the past and who changed it? How long did you go this time?

You could have been low before each oil change and unless you measured what came out you wouldn't know. That's why it's important to always monitor your oil level from time to time with any car. The light won't come on until you're bone dry and damage has already occured.

I'll have to ask the garage... I typically went 3-4k per change. I'm probably around 5k this time around, and no I haven't monitored (I did initially but never saw any major change, got lazy/dumb after awhile and stopped). I actually never saw this thread till searching around last night about the oil light (not as active on here as I used to be).

 

That belt grinding sound when you start up is a huge indicator that your oil and therefore oil pressure were low. Same thing happened to me and many other people on here. Some belt (can't remember which) loses tension with low oil pressure and rattles on startup, so at the very least, whenever you hear that noise check your oil ASAP or get a new engine.

 

It's timing chain rattle (not belt). Oil pressurizes the tensioners.

 

Once oil drops two quarts down, you have three quarts trying to do the work of five. It doesn't take long for the oil to break down due to heat and stress. Once that happens, oil consumption goes through the roof. If you check it and add at the "low" mark, you can slow this process but not stop it.

 

Ok, so most of 06 and earlier drivers are driving and putting up with this situation? Just keeping tabs on the oil I'm assuming?


Mechanic recommended putting Lucas Oil Engine Stop Leak in, any thoughts on this?

In my experience, nothing that you pour into an engine will "fix" a problem. Disguise it maybe.

 

This is a known issues since 2002. Oil Consumption problems with most VQ35DE Altimas, Maximas, and Pathfinders and any other car with this same motor.

Of course, it became more apparent on the Rev-up motor when the genius over at Nissan decided to increase the rev limit and keep the internals the same.

Crappy rings are to blame. The pistons and engine bearing aren't all that good either. Glad they decided to go with a German motor for the next round.

 

Don't be so sure that oil issues will be solved by getting German engines...they have oil issues too....
